Well, some stars like Amanda Bynes use technology like Twitter to tell the world they are retiring. Some stars like Kelsey Grammar announce the end of his marriage. But today Anne Rice became the first pop culture figure I know that decided to break up with Christians, and she did it using facebook.
On her official website she posted the following announcement via her facebook feed this afternoon:"I quit being a Christian. I'm out. In the name of Christ, I refuse to be anti-gay. I refuse to be anti-feminist. I refuse to be anti-artificial birth control. I refuse to be anti-Democrat. I refuse to be anti-secular humanism. I refuse to be anti-science. I refuse to be anti-life.
In the name of ...Christ, I quit Christianity and being Christian Amen.

“Christopher Rice, her gay son”
Nobody who has a relative suffering from same-sex attraction disorder is to be listened to on the subject. Their bias disqualifies them.

Even though she claims not to have rejected Christ I think she has rejected the Christ of Scripture. I think the Christ of Scripture is too challenging for those who want a pocket Christ. You know a Christ that never gets too big or never makes Himself socially awkward by pointing out sin. The Christ you can carry about for your convenience and to make yourself feel good. The Christ of Scripture never hesitated to warn people of their sins and of its consequences. He was all about Salvation. And sin is the enemy of our Salvation. I agree completely.
I was happy when I read she had returned to Christ. It's always sad to hear of someone's departure. And for such foolish reasons.

I was too. Sent her "Out Of The Darkness" book to my vampire crazy cousin as a testimony against that kind of a life of darkness. We had tried everything, and thought she might could identify with some of Anne's stuggles.
This is just really sad.

Hopefully God isn’t through with her and her journey will lead her back to the only truth that matters — Christ risen.

The problem is with dumbasses who think that Christianity is supposed to be some self-esteem boosting group therapy rather than a belief system and a code of ethics/morals/behavior. So, every now and then we get some whiny moron who complains that Christianity sucks because every Christian isn't some saintly clone of Jesus who lives to serve at the whim of that whiny moron's psychological damage. Hey morons - it isn't about YOU and your FEELINGS. That is EXACTLY his point.

Stanley Ann is correct.
If Wikipedia (YMMV) has the right of it, I find "S. Ann Dunham"'s story to be kind of sad, actually. She had trouble staying married, never got a clue, and died relatively young without any hope in eternity.

We don't always get along with our Christian brothers, but then a review of the relationship of siblings in the Bible shows us the pitfalls there.
Think about the Heart of the Father, that's where the model for out relationships should be.

Folks, in a rather confused, angry, yet poignant declaration posted on her Facebook page two days ago on Wednesday, author Ann Rice renounced Christianity but not Christ:
For those who care, and I understand if you don't: Today I quit being a Christian. I'm out. I remain committed to Christ as always but not to being "Christian" or to being part of Christianity. It's simply impossible for me to 'belong' to... this quarrelsome, hostile, disputatious, and deservedly infamous group. For ten
years, I've tried. I've failed. I'm an outsider. My conscience will allow nothing else.
As I said below, I quit being a Christian. In the name of
Christ, I quit Christianity and being Christian. Amen.
In the past, I had reviewed a number of Ms. Anne Rices works, particularly her Christ the Lord works, as well as Memnoch the Devil, and Servant of the Bones. One such review earned a place of honor on her website. I found those works genial and congenial, and evidence of a gentle, inner evolution of thought, heart and soul. If Ms. Rices declarations hold, her evolution has come to an end.
Ms. Rice is a gentle person. My very few exchanges with her have shown me that and the very few times I expressed my disagreements on her Facebook site I did it respectfully, without attacking her person, but questioning her stances from the viewpoint of the Catholic faith she said she had embraced, and natural law. In the end I saw the futility of it and not liking to be embroiled in long, protracted arguments, I left her to the mercy of God, to whom I cling every day for my own sins and shortcomings.
Ms. Rice is not an ignorant. To say that shes well read would be an understatement. Shes a genius, shes an artist. But whether she likes it or not, Christ left us a moral code, that is not anti-human nor anti-life, but well to the contrary and this teaching is proclaimed by the Church He left behind, unapologetically, in season and out of season.
We should take this opportunity for introspection. Did Ms. Rice leave because of her convictions or because we drove her away? Without absolving her of the personal responsibility of her choices, we should ask ourselves that question. We should ask ourselves how many from among us failed to be Christ for her and carefully, gently, try to show her why a number of her deeply held convictions were contrary to the Gospel she said she embraced. Did we also show her the breadth and the depth of the mercy of God to her? I think that many of us didnt. Those who didnt also share a measure of responsibility for her apostasy. Think about that one too.
I mourn Ms. Rices exit and pray that she comes to her senses. If not, I wish her well, and I want to let her know that the door remains open for her again, awaiting her return. For that we should all pray.

I have yet to come across an orthodox Evangelical Christian (not the emerging Church sort) who support homosexual behavior, secular humanism (strong support of abortion) and/or the radical feminist agenda (destruction of the family.)
She is a perfect candidate for a Bishop in the Episcopal Church or to become Unitarian. The two mind you are not necessarily different.

I don't support homosexual behavior, or any other depraved UnChristlike lifestyle.
I worked in the trenches for the pro-life movement for around 15 years, when most evangelical churches were counceling abortion.
I was also in the trenches when the Republicans party was pro death and pro homosexual. Conservatives, such as yourself, were an idea. The seasoned Republicans of that day would say there would be no way a conservative platform would pass. We fought it out, and it did.
I don't know Anne Rice. I read, then heard, her testimony. She is from an extreme liberal background and has been into a darkness I cannot even guess at.
People can be saved and still not have their minds renewed. That said, over time there should be the fruit of righteousness. Words can be printed, meanings misunderstood. That happens here on FR all the time.
If the fruit in her life remains bad than she needs to get saved, her "surrender" was only mental assent. There, but for the grace of God, go you and me.

She writes vampire novels. Sounds like she was the same sort of “Christian” that Jane Fonda was for a while.

So I don't hear a renunciation of Jesus Christ here, but of Chritianity and Christians. How can one reject Christianity and not Jesus Christ?

I never meant that you did. I meant that I don’t think Anne Rice would be happy as an Evangelical Christian because her leaving Catholicism had to do with doctrines that are not exclusive to Catholicism but to all orthodox Christianity.

Christianity is the community of professing Christians. I don’t know why she doesn’t just join the lefty Episcopalians. They’ll validate all her marxist inclinations.

I am sorry, I did misunderstand you.
Yes, you are right, at this point Anne would not do well in any Christ centered church. I don't think she understands the Lord's guidelines, were given to keep us from a destructive lifestyle, one harmful to us and others. She needs to understand Jesus' heart better, we all do. Those invitation are sent out only by Him.
