Rafael Cardinal Merry del Val
O Jesus! meek and humble of heart, Hear me.
From the desire of being esteemed, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being loved, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being extolled, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being honored, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being praised, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being preferred to others, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being consulted, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being approved, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being humiliated, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being despised, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of suffering rebukes, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being calumniated, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being forgotten, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being ridiculed, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being wronged, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being suspected, Deliver me, Jesus.
That others may be loved more than I, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be esteemed more than I, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That, in the opinion of the world, others may increase and I may decrease,Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be chosen and I set aside, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be praised and I unnoticed, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be preferred to me in everything, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may become holier than I,
provided that I may become
as holy as I should, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
Dominicus Gabriel Mariae
O most gracious Lord Jesus:
To redeem an undeserving humanity
You gave up everything you had.
In your mercy, grant us the grace
of despising all things but you
and your love
That we may know the joy
you brought to us
through your dolorous Passion
and Death,
Who live and reign in might and bliss
with the Father and the Holy Spirit,
One God, in everlasting glory.
A few thought provoking quotes from Mother Angelica:
“Faith seeks the God of consolations more than the consolations of God.
It doesn’t matter how you feel; it only matters what you do.
God chooses little things to do big things.
God from all eternity chose you to be where you are, at this time in history to change the world.
You may be the only Jesus your neighbors ever see.
The real you only emerges when you are united to God.”
Mad Dawg, the quest for holiness I see in others makes me feel humble. Thank you for your posts.
Not buzzackly, IMHO. We're praying that what others think of us not be so important to us.
It's like "blessings" or what Catholics call "consolations"; like what Mother Angelica said. We want God. We want God to think about us, and to give us the grace to care about each other.
But if what He gives is more important than who He is, I think we're not doing it right yet.
Further, to cease to fixate on consolations is not to turn consolations away any more than it is to crave them. When we are consoled, we are grateful. When we are in an arid spell, there is still plenty to be grateful for. When you think of me, I am consoled. When you don't, is that a reason for my love to be any less?
Sorry, not being clear. Distracted.
Spiritual Pilgrimage With Pope Benedict XVI
|
Heavenly Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth takes its name, we humbly ask that you sustain, inspire, and protect your servant, Pope Benedict XVI, as he goes on pilgrimage to Turkey a land to which St. Paul brought the Gospel of your Son; a land where once the Mother of your Son, the Seat of Wisdom, dwelt; a land where faith in your Sons true divinity was definitively professed. Bless our Holy Father, who comes as a messenger of truth and love to all people of faith and good will dwelling in this land so rich in history. In the power of the Holy Spirit, may this visit of the Holy Father bring about deeper ties of understanding, cooperation, and peace among Roman Catholics, the Orthodox, and those who profess Islam. May the prayers and events of these historic days greatly contribute both to greater accord among those who worship you, the living and true God, and also to peace in our world so often torn apart by war and sectarian violence. We also ask, O Heavenly Father, that you watch over and protect Pope Benedict and entrust him to the loving care of Mary, under the title of Our Lady of Fatima, a title cherished both by Catholics and Muslims. Through her prayers and maternal love, may Pope Benedict be kept safe from all harm as he prays, bears witness to the Gospel, and invites all peoples to a dialogue of faith, reason, and love. We make our prayer through Christ, our Lord. Amen. Prayer composed by Bishop William E. Lori, Supreme Chaplain of the Knights of Columbus, for the Spiritual Pilgrimage with His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI on his Nov. 28-Dec. 1 pastoral visit to Turkey. |

#724 indicated the need for a hug.
One is provided in #725.
oh.
Evidently my CrackBerry doesn’t do pictures or something. I’m still finding my way around it.
Anyway, I’m glad the need was expressed — and met!
Thank you!
Good morning!
All this unnecessary sunlight is interfering with my sleeping in.
Bubbas and Sissies, I have nothing to say this morning. I turned it over to God, and evidently he wants me to listen today and not to speak.
That’s okay with me.
Have a blessed day.
INDEED. WELL PUT.
BLESS YOU THIS DAY IN ALL THE WAYS YOU MOST NEED IN HIS PROVISION, GRACE, LOVE, AND GUIDANCE.
A big, purple hug with frilly brackets ... PERFECT!
LOL.
GOOD.
I think you may appreciate this excerpt from Msgr. Romano Guardini’s great little book, The Rosary of Our Lady (a small book with a meditation on each of the 15 rosary mysteries of Christ’s life, death and resurrection—each meditation is only 2-3 paragraphs long but rich in content)
THE CROWNING WITH THORNS
“Man’s life is interwoven with pride, rebellion and vanity-—sometimes open, mostly hidden. Their roots are invisible to human eyes and they stretch beyond the human will. The Lord unveils their power by giving them the possibility of being turned against Himself. The pride with which we strut about and the vanities we relish are transformed for the Son of God into a pattern of humiliation. His suffering is as great as the measure of human evil.
“It is a decisive moment in the growth of a Christian when he penetrates the deceit of all that is called greatness: power, accomplishment, beauty, reputation. Of course, these things are not evil in themselves, but evil is in them. Now is the time to meditate on all of this, to hold firmly one’s ground, and to acquire self-knowledge. And then one should fight for humility.
“Humility is nothing other than the conviction that God is God, and only God-—and that man is man, and nothing but man.”
Amen!
Outstanding.
Maybe you will like this, too—I know it gave me food for thought:
“Humility and charity are the two main parts of the spiritual edifice. One is the lowest and the other the highest and all the others depend on them. Hence, we must keep ourselves well-founded in these two, because the preservation of the entire edifice depends on the foundation and the roof.”
St. Francis de Sales “Spiritual Diary”
Well stated. We remember, though, that to be truly humble - putting others before ourselves - and to have true charity - the kind that Jesus said would love others "as He loves us" - is not humanly possible. Without the indwelling and influence of the Holy Spirit, we cannot ever hope to achieve these virtues. It is only when we allow him to work through us that we can exhibit humility and love the way he desires us to.
“we remember....”
I never forgot.
