Litany of Humility

Rafael Cardinal Merry del Val

O Jesus! meek and humble of heart, Hear me.

From the desire of being esteemed, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being loved, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being extolled, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being honored, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being praised, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being preferred to others, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being consulted, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being approved, Deliver me, Jesus.

From the fear of being humiliated, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being despised, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of suffering rebukes, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being calumniated, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being forgotten, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being ridiculed, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being wronged, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being suspected, Deliver me, Jesus.

That others may be loved more than I, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be esteemed more than I, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That, in the opinion of the world, others may increase and I may decrease,Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be chosen and I set aside, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be praised and I unnoticed, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be preferred to me in everything, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may become holier than I,
provided that I may become
as holy as I should, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.

Closing Prayer

Dominicus Gabriel Mariae

O most gracious Lord Jesus:
To redeem an undeserving humanity
You gave up everything you had.

In your mercy, grant us the grace
of despising all things but you
and your love

That we may know the joy
you brought to us
through your dolorous Passion
and Death,

Who live and reign in might and bliss
with the Father and the Holy Spirit,
One God, in everlasting glory.

Well, asleep before 4:00 last night, but at least I didn’t have the splitting headache when I woke up.

How old is this baby? Maybe we can work a deal.....

Today I begin the 33 day preparation for “total consecration to Jesus Christ through Mary.” All RIGHTY then!

Okay, I laughed out loud.

I’d really like to complain, too, believe me, I have a LOT to complain about, but I have two hungry dogs, no dog food, and must run to the store. *sigh*

Well hurry back and complain all you like.

I think complaining CAN be an art form.

I mean, look at the Psalms, for crying out loud! The Blues ain’t got nuthin’ on David when he’s feeling really bad.

Well, I gave the dogs a bowl of cheerios, no banana, so they can wait a while. Meanwhile, here it is:

All my kids and grandkids came for July 4 weekend. We had a WONDERFUL time. Not a complaint.

Then, my son and I had a long talk. Upshot is, all of them want me to move to live with him and the family for the winter. They don’t want me alone down here during bad weather; they reminded me, in a very loving way, that I need my cane, I have had a heart attack, and I have high blood pressure.

My daughter talked with me, too. She calls me every day, to be sure I’m okay. She said, what if you die? I said, fine, no problem. She said, but the mastiff will eat you. I said, what do I care? She said, but we won’t be able to find a home for him, after he has chewed off your right foot. She said, “Can you imagine us, saying ‘Mastiff, free to good home, housebroken, loves children, ate his dead owner.’”

Daughter is the one who drove me to the hospital when I had the heart attack 1-1/2 yrs ago. We thought it was stomach flu, but she told the ER that I had chest pain, so they’d see me right away. Were WE ever surprised to find out I DID have chest pain! The doctor in the ER told her I wouldn’t make it. HAH!

So, I am getting my brain around that. Meanwhile, I don’t sleep well (pain from RA) and even though I date, I feel self-conscious due to the cane. I can’t imagine marrying again.

For the bp, I’m already thin, so losing weight won’t help. I already eat right, so diet changes won’t help. The meds ALL have side effects that are unpleasant, and this morning I’m in pain because periodically I let my pain meds run out so I don’t get addicted. *sigh* I wouldn’t mind being addicted, per se, but the meds don’t work as well, when the body is accustomed to them. Aspirin works pretty well, but not VERY well. In other words, I can hold a conversation, but sleep is impossible.

(MOAN, MOAN!) (Whine, whimper)

I WANT TO CONTINUE TO BE INDEPENDENT!!! I don’t want to live with anyone!!! I want my dead husband back!!! I don’t want to live in the suburbs, no matter how nice!!! I love my house, my pond, my flowers, my deck, my acreage, my trees, my life!!!

But, the kids are right. Last winter was very rough. I hate needing help.

That’s my story. I’d cuss, but this is the RF. Grrrr.

I went to Weight Watchers. There was a woman at the meeting who has lost 165 lbs.

um "able to fend for himself in a crisis?"

Wow. All this DOES pretty much stink. I'm glad the kiddies care for you, but what a bummer to be in a place to need it?

4th Sorrowful Mystery. Hard stuff.

ROFL!! I’ll suggest it. They’ll laugh. This is a big old lovey soft-eyed fawn dog who outweighs me by 70+ pounds lets grandkids take his bones right out of his mouth, eats unwanted green beans at dinner and doesn’t tattle, warms people feet on cold nights, chases rabbits and squirrels, thinks ice cubes are a WONDERFUL treat, can be trusted with a secret, has never chewed furniture or shoes and was bred never to slobber. True. Very expensive dog, amazing breeder. Dear Hubby trained him, did a beautiful job. There will never be another like him.

I also have a minpin, but she’s a whole nother story.

Mad Dawg - my mother and I are beginning that today too! Is this your first time or are you renewing? I am renewing my consecration, and my mother is doing this for the first time. What a great thing!

Most definitely - my mom and I will pray for you, and you for us. This is my fourth year.

You will be very happy that you are doing this. Have you read “True Devotion to Mary” yet?

Morning has broken,
  I didn't do it!
Blackbird has spoken,
  It's not my fault!

I actually got to sleep before the clock struck one!

I'm taking the silly pill in the AM. We shall see.

How did you and the baby do?

Children of the Lord!

It’s morning! There are those who maintain that this is a good thing.

May we be delivered from an excessive of love of created things, and stirred from a deficient love of our Redeemer and those whom He has redeemed.

May we rejoice, not so much that we are less than motes of dust, but that we dance in the breeze of God’s spirit and are lit by His light.

To be great, and thought of as great, without Him, is disaster.
To be small and in His Heart, is delight and majesty beyond reckoning.

Now, in His strength, let’s go kick some diabolic butt!

I think we slept a few hours. It’s kind of a blur, and I think there was a cat involved at some point, too.
