Modern Israel in Bible Prophecy
American Vision ^ | June 21, 2010 | Gary DeMar

Many Bible prophecy teachers and writers believe and teach that Israel becoming a nation in 1948 is a fulfillment of Bible prophecy. The revival of the Hebrew language is often taught as a fulfillment of Zephaniah 3:9. Should the Bible be viewed through the lens of current events or should we rather view current events through the lens of the Bible?

We always suspected 1948 was important from a prophetic timeline. There is certainly no other Israel we could be confusing things with.

The diaspora can’t re-establish the temple.

That is still a primary goal, last I heard.

I would assert that the temple will be re-establish in the wake of a war with the Saudis.

Islam will collapse when Mecca and Medina become glass parking lots.

I believe India is as likely to bring this about as Israel.

Interesting times.

Right. Aside from, you know, ancient Israel.

From Hal Lindsey? Or from Tim LaHaye?

DeMar is a preterist, believing that prophetic passages such as Daniel 9 and Matthew 24 were fulfilled long ago. Lots of luck with that view.

Exactly. In the end there shall come scoffers.

Hal and some may have gotten all caught up in some bad date setting stuff, but the are right in the general thesis that THIS is the time of which the Bible speaks.

Thanks for posting this.

Sad, but for way too many Christians, Jesus Himself isn't good enough. They need a hand-carved stone temple to pin their hopes on, rather than a living house of God, composed of living stones, where the living presence of God dwells today.

What Jesus did on Calvary wasn't sufficient. There are lunatics out there who treat the Blood of Redemption poured forth by the Lamb of God as a common thing. The blood of Jesus doesn't count. To really tidy up historical expectations, we need to re-institute animal sacrifices! (How's it going with that red heifer, BTW? or is it a red herring?)

God's new creation, in His Son, of one new man, one new covenant community, is sneered at by those who have such tender solicitude for a Christ-denying, Jesus-reviling cult. They love these cultists SO much that they want to herd them all together into one small spot of land, the better to exterminate 2/3 of them.

Start denying the finality of Jesus -- and you end up with some really strange doctrines and practices.

Hal's a master of bad dates. Last time I heard, he was on marriage #4! But that's all right, maybe THIS time he got it right!

""Exactly. In the end there shall come scoffers.""

If you believe it is near the end, perhaps you should heed the warning about false prophets..

As for me and my house we are serving the Lord... Amen..

And that goes for EVERYONE. There's no alternate path to salvation; no plan B for anyone. No more ethnic nor racial particularism.

What kind of Christians let their love for fortune-telling make them more interested in a Christ-denying cult than they are in Jesus?

It's politics. Slick, intentional politics planned over a century ago.

It's sure not the Gospel which is to be preached to all men everywhere until the end of time and Christ comes to claim His own -- all believing Jews and Gentiles who "love His appearing."

"That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him." -- John 5:23

That is as valid as anything I have ever heard. I am not student enough to discern India’s role in the prophecies....

I had one person arguing that there is not a concerted effort on the part of any Israelis to reestablish temple sacrifice.

I’m not there; I just know it has to happen to fulfill scripture.
