Douay-Rheims, 400th anniversary

The definitive translation of the Bible in English by the scholars of the English College in Douai was completed 400 years ago, in 1610, with the publication of the final volume of the Old Testament, 28 years after the publication of the New Testament (when the College was temporarily in Rheims).
Our sincere gratitude to the holy men, from all nations of the British Isles, who, through several decades, accomplished this work for the Church. (And one question: is any celebration, seminar, or event taking place this year in commemoration of this anniversary?)

This was from the failed efforts of the Catholic Church made to re-convert England to Catholicism.

I doubt it.
Do you envision the same happening in America, as well?

Failed? What do you think is happening right now? The “Church of England” will soon be the “Church in England”.
The Douay-Rheims is superior to any other English translation in so many ways. It is like a fine wine, it gets better with age.

I also trusted the DRV so much that it convinced me of the doctrine of “sola Scriptura”.

Did the first edition have commentary explaining that Genesis is a mythical description of evolution, or that the Pentateuch was the work of J, E, P, and D?

This was from the failed efforts of the Catholic Church made to re-convert England to Catholicism.I thought the Catholic Church didn't believe in actively trying to convert people, but that it waited for people to come to it???

They had a harsher stance against those freeing themselves from its clutches.

Oh, man.... the New American Bible had all kinds of idiotic footnotes and chapter introductions like that ....
I bet some “seminary students” wrote most of that excrement.....

All I know is any Catholic bible is going to have that stuff in it. So naturally I wonder what Catholic bibles were like before liberal German Protestants came up with all those blasphemous theories the Catholic Church has so enthusiastically adopted.

Netmilsmom says the Catholic Church doesn't try to convert people. If you're interested, you have to go to them.

Stop making it about one Freeper. It isn’t all about her, nor is it all about your issues with the Catholic Church.

The footnotes and cross references in the Douay-Rheims are great. Of course, you could go nuclear and get the “Catena Aurea”, edited by St. Thomas Aquinas. It contains commentary on the Four Gospels by the Early Church Fathers.
Yes, the Biblia Sacra is definitely loved and well known within the Catholic family.

So long as you don't believe it actually happened.
