At least some of Warhol's work made the viewer think a bit about the subject, or the process of producing art, or the interplay between high and low culture. What does Kinkade's product inspire, except a fleeting sentiment of "pretty house" or "nice landscape"? It's denatured art.

I loved this photoshop contest at somethingawful.

My favorite...sort of a pastiche of every Kinkade ever produced:

Geez Oblomov! From all the great spoofs on that site you had to pick the one that actually pulls a heartstring or two (however inadvertently).

That one actually works for me.

Originally the soldier in Kinkade’s patriotic-themed “Heading Home” was just... heading home, but here he’s dead and being welcomed into heaven by J.C.; and if this is heaven no wonder it looks a little goofy.

Now I’m all choked up. Damn you! Damn you to hell! (or whatever kinda limbo was being portrayed in that awful movie with Robin Williams being dead and trying to save his suicided wife from purgatory: “What Dreams May Come”—which seemed to be strongly influenced by his stuff as to backdrop animation).

Great post re: Warhol, and great link.

Kincaide's art seems to appeal to people who don't like Art, and think it's pretentious to actually try something beyond surface prettiness.
