It's important that a person understands why he believes what he does based on his own reasoning ability God has given him to discern truth from falsehood...not simply from the resources of a denomination or organization...Jesus and the disciples often times “reasoned” with their listeners, from the scriptures, We need to also do this with the understanding which God enables us to do so with.
... As you know there are many out there with opinions, doctrines, books etc. which are not in accordance with the revealed word of God... Although we may arrive at the same conclusion to that of a church or organizations and what they might present to us, it must be from our own assessment and understanding as his spirit reveals when we apply ourselves to learning truth from falsehood.... And this in order to be a defender of the faith in which we choose to adhere to.
Thus I am asking for your own understanding of what is in the book of mormon which is not already in the bible? Not a link to what your church would have you believe.
The LdS Articles of Faith has stated that they (LdS) believe the Bible is the Word of God "so long as it's translated correctly."
So, keeping that in mind, the LdS, because of JS, can now question the veracity and truthfulness of anything in the Bible because of that statement, which they will when it's convenient to do so.
They believe that many truths were "lost" due to man's inability to translate the Word correctly and that through deception, many "precious things" were purposely omitted.
Also, JS was attempting to "correct" the Bible with the JS Translation. I believe Elsie has a table that shows how JS was mangling the Bible.
And, other than some HISTORY of some Nephiites and Lamanites, just what in the BoM's 'doctrine' is DIFFERENT than the bible?
