Are Ouija Boards Satanic?
Aggie Catholic ^ | 6/9/2010 | Marcel LeJeune

Q - Is using a Ouija Board ok, if just for fun? Also, what do you think of the comments at the bottom of this websiteI can't believe that Hasbro makes this and Toys 'R Us sells them!

A - Thanks for the questions. I think my answers might just surprise some of our readers.

The origin of these boards is not from a game. Rather, they come from a practice of "channeling" or "divination". Channeling is asking the dead to give us answers to questions or power and is an ancient - and dangerous - practice. Thus, the word "occult" = "hidden". The Bible speaks directly to this practice:

Let there not be found among you anyone who immolates his son or daughter in the fire, nor a fortune-teller, soothsayer, charmer, diviner, or caster of spells, nor one who consults ghosts and spirits or seeks oracles from the dead. Anyone who does such things is an abomination to the LORD, and because of such abominations the LORD, your God, is driving these nations out of your way. - Deuteronomy 18: 10-12
He practiced soothsaying and divination, and reintroduced the consulting of ghosts and spirits. He did much evil in the LORD'S sight and provoked him to anger. - 2 Kings 21:6
And when they say to you, "Inquire of mediums and fortune-tellers (who chirp and mutter!); should not a people inquire of their gods, apply to the dead on behalf of the living?" - Is 8:19
So, the history of divination and channeling is ancient, but it has some more modern forms, which have become popular again from various sources, including - New Age practices, the Occult, fortune-telling, Wicca, astrology, and "games" such as the Ouija Board. All of these have Pagan spiritual origins and should never be practiced by Christians.

Ultimately, this is a dangerous practice because it is an attempt to seek spiritual power from somewhere other than God. If this is the case, then demons or evil spirits are most likely the ones supplying it. We open ourselves up to demonic influence if we do so - to the point of having possession being possible down the line.

Some might think this is an overreaction and that it is just fun. I have heard some say - at most, it is a spooky time for kids to pretend they can talk to the dead. But, demons can work through this kind of attitude to quietly induce someone to their way of thinking and acting.

A personal disbelief in the power of Satan, does not make his power go away. Just ask an exorcist who has had to fight with such demons. They will not beat around the bush in regards to such practices.

The danger is very real.

Thus, the Catechism states:

2116 All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to "unveil" the future.48 Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis, other human beings, as well as a wish to conciliate hidden powers. They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone.

2117 All practices of magic or sorcery, by which one attempts to tame occult powers, so as to place them at one's service and have a supernatural power over others - even if this were for the sake of restoring their health - are gravely contrary to the virtue of religion. These practices are even more to be condemned when accompanied by the intention of harming someone, or when they have recourse to the intervention of demons. Wearing charms is also reprehensible. Spiritism often implies divination or magical practices; the Church for her part warns the faithful against it. Recourse to so-called traditional cures does not justify either the invocation of evil powers or the exploitation of another's credulity.

So, in answer to your question - I believe the Ouija Board and other kinds of New Age practices to be very dangerous. I also think it is scandalous that they are marketing it as a "game" and so many people accept such things uncritically.

The experience our family had may be partly responsible for my becoming such a strong Christian. I know how helpless we can be as human beings. All we have with certainly is our Lord Jesus Christ, who gives us life, light and truth. I even bless our home in Jesus’ name from time to time, a well as my loved ones all the time. The battle is not ours, but the Lord’s.

I also like to point out that you’d best be strong when dealing with demon possessed people. Remember in the Bible the man who tried to cast out a demon? It said “Jesus, I know. But who are you?” and it beat the crap out of him. But I believe if you “allow” Jesus to do it, you’re going to win.

It’s not the toy that is of heaven or hell, it’s the intent of the user.

Ouija boards are said to be dangerous because they can open the door to malevolent spiritual influences, which often present themselves initially in a sympathetic fashion. Some exorcists claim that a Ouija board is a common route for demonic attack, which commonly require permission in some form.

I don’t believe in them any more than I believe in astrology, sacred images in tortillas, or anthropomorphic global warming.

” it beat the crap out of him. But I believe if you “allow” Jesus to do it, you’re going to win.”

Your belief is correct. When I do this work, the words coming out of my mouth are not me! I listen and learn by hearing the words coming through me. I was never a religious person and did not seek or ask for this path, it just hapened. It amazed me when 1 John 4: scripture came out of my mouth to test imposters when I had never read nor heard it prior. Only much later did I learn that it was a Bible scripture. It works!

I had a nasy one come out of a woman, hit me in the chest so hard that it felt like a 2X4 being shoved through me, and sent me flying backward into the wall. But yet no one physically touched me. It was an experience I will never forget and one that I needed. Of the four friends I had that did the same spiritual work I did back in the early 1990’s, I am the only one still alive.

After that first experience, they would appear to be hitting a cement wall as they tried to harm me. They would hiss, spit, scream and swing at me but to no avail. I’ve had them catch me off guard for a few moments and spin me for a loop, but thanks to the Divine Spirit, I recover quickly.

I have a tape recording where another one came out of me and into a woman. It was all we could do to keep her seated in the recliner as she kept thrashing around. It kept telling how it hated me and wanted to kill me. It tried.... I have been doing spirit release work for about twenty years. When I get in the way, it is a failure. When “I” step aside it goes well.

Incidently, the transcript of the tape of this demonic spirit release is recored in Dr. Irene Hickman’s book titled “Spirit Depossesion.” She was an absolutely wonderful angelic woman, but slipped up and departed.

Those things would not continue to exist if they didn't "do" something interesting, but what exactly they do is subject to all kinds of speculation.

"They" don't "do" anything. If "they" did, "they" wouldn't need "you" to put your fingers on the pointer.

If you want real proof, operate one with your eyes closed and see if anything but gibberish comes out of it.

If there were really demons channeling through you, they wouldn't need your eyes to be able to move the pointer to "yes" or "no"

IOW, it's a bunch of hokum, just like Sasquatch and "Nessie".

I saw a Ouija board in a tortilla once. It said, “Eat Me”.

I've used hypnosis on people and communicated with the spirits that moved in during the ouija experience.

What does God and the Bible say about submitting to hypnosis?

I always heard that was considered to be an evil practice, too and for the same reasons as you cite for the Ouija --it opens you up to being possessed by demons.

How do you know that you didn't open the door when you hypnotized them?

FWIW:

Deut. 18:10-12:

“There shall not be found among you any one that ... uses divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer, for all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord.”

I would personally say the major difference between the movies with the gore & guts and a ouija board is:

the movies are an act of watching evil while the ouija board is actually an act of reaching out to something evil, an invitation.

I stay away from both.

Sorry, but a true Christian would never seek intervention from the dead.

If you need intervention you pray to God directly through Jesus Christ.

God Bless
