The wish or longing to do something forbidden. An absolute desire for what is sinful is a sin of the same moral species and gravity as the evil action desired, whether the desire is effective or not.

It seems to me that the evil desire to harm someone, for example, is just as great a sin as actually doing that harm.

Well, Jesus said as much. That should satisfy the "sola scriptura" fanatics among us.
