Catholic Church Denies Female Priest a Catholic Burial (wymynpryst, that is)

A woman who challenged a Catholic ordination ban has died. The Catholic church will not allow her to be buried at a Catholic parish.

Janine Denomme was ordained a priest in April by a group called Roman Catholic Womenpriests. She had been battling cancer and yesterday she died in her Edgewater home.

The Catholic church never recognized Denomme's ordination. The Archdiocese of Chicago says Denomme automatically separated herself from the Church when she participated in "the simulation of the sacrament of Holy Orders." The diocese says she knowingly and willingly participated in the simulation and brought excommunication upon herself. And because of that Denomme is denied a Catholic funeral. The Archdiocese says Denomme would only be allowed a Church burial if she gave "some sign of repentance before death."

Denomme's funeral mass will be held at First United Methodist Church in Evanston.

Uhh...it's not a Mass, she's not a Pryst, and good for Cardinal George.

And Poor John Wesley has got to be spinning in his grave!!!!!

Perhaps this a sign that Cardinal George is developing a spine. We’ll have to see how he handles the threatened homosexual assault on Sunday, if it happens.

So...they couldn’t take her down to Mt. Olivet and bury her next to Al Capone?

I think that publicity is good for these cases. Someone who separates herself from the church cannot then demand that the church serve her.

Nancy Pelosi, at age 70, should be looking toward the last things.

I hope that the Heroes in the Hierarchy of the Catholic Church use the same rules when they bury the Priests who sexually abused children.
And also bury the Clerics who Enabled and allowed this holocaust to happen.

I doubt that they will, or even have the will to do it.

I am a Practicing Roman Catholic for over secen Decades

I don't believe the woman who became a so-called priest asked forgiveness in any way. Many priests who have committed crimes against children, I would imagine have. It's the call of the confessor as to whether their confession is True or not. Then it's Christ's call whether they get to heaven, but they deserve to be buried in a Catholic cemetery if they've asked and received forgiveness. In other words, there's hope for us all!!

This woman made the mistake of not being a flaming liberal senator from Massachusetts who killed someone. THEN she would have gotten a lavish funeral, headed up by the local cardinal nonetheless, as well as a spot in Arlington.

Cardinal George does *not* like confrontation (hence; the issue with Pfleger), and that is why, I believe, the homosexuals assault him. I don't think many will show up (if any) at St. John Cantius, for if they do, they will feel *very* out of place. But this is positive news regarding Cardinal George, "the short, balding man with soft hands."

Al Capone probably repented while he was dying.

This woman did not.

Capone died of tertiary syphilis, and at the end his brain was pretty much pablum. So unless he repented earlier [and the syphilis is why he was released from Alcatraz early], it’s hard to know if he [a] knwoingly repented, or [2] got a pass, and absolution because of his condition.

One of the things about the "scandal", highlighted by your comment, is the differing treatment of priests and religious who fall from grace, depending on their "crime".

In the old days (1965-75), priests who announced an intention to marry were treated very badly, often being evicted from their living quarters in less than 24 hours. Bishops generally felt horror at this act, and had no trouble showing it.

A nun who did a lot of work with me in the 1990s (in Boston, no less!) was involved in a situation where she baptized, or allowed the impression to be given that she had baptized, a baby. She was at the curb with a suitcase in six hours, put out of the place she had lived for 28 years.

By contrast, the soul murderers who perverted the confessional to destroy young boys and young men have been treated with ostentatious compassion.

There's nothing wrong with compassion, but it does certainly seem to be selectively applied.

Something's missing from your story, because there's nothing wrong with a nun (or anyone else) baptizing a baby who is in danger of death.
