A prominent doctor at a Phoenix Catholic hospital is publicily lauding the nun who helped approve an abortion that took place there in late 2009. The hospital's ethics committee, on which the nun-- a hospital vice president-- served deemed it necessary to kill the unborn child in order to save the life of the mother.
Sister Margaret McBride is a courageous, valued member of the St. Joseph Hospital medical team and deserves our unfailing support and gratitude, writes Dr. John Garvie, chief of gastroenterology at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center.
Let me assure all that there is no finer defender of life at our hospital than Sister McBride. Everyone I know considers Sister Margaret to be the moral conscience of the hospital.
What she did was something very few are asked to do; namely, to make a life-and-death decision with the full recognition that in order to save one life, another life must be sacrificed.
This gastroenterologist needs to be fired for his anti-life attitude. But somehow I doubt that the Sisters of Mercy will do so...
Leftists have the most hideously utilitarian view of life. A person is so worthless to them that his or her death isn’t even worthy of grief, unless that life has been dedicated to hedonism. I’m sure this “mother” and this “nun” will have a joyous life of drinking, eating, and improving their image in the eyes of others.
This lethal mental illness has even infected our catholic hospitals and schools. There is no longer any possibility of humanity preserving itself for another 50 years. Only a miracle can save us now.
I am pregnant and this time there are some complications that are potentially very dangerous for me as well as the baby. Even so, I would never want my baby killed to save my life.
Interesting that the doctor used the word “sacrificed”. Brings to mind some OT verses that make God’s view on this very clear.
Some lives our worth more than others.
Abortion heartbreak here...

Moloch, anybody?
You and your baby are in my prayers.
My daughter taught math in a Catholic K-12 school in Texas. Every one of the teachers and the principal ( except my daughter) voted for Obama. This is a man who not only supports abortion, but also partial birth abortion, and allowing babies who survive to die on cold stainless steel slabs in a utility room!
These Catholic teachers and principal took every opportunity to show the students how **thrilled** they were that this butcher of man was now president. UNBELIEVEABLE!
If Catholics can not stand up to evil then civilization is lost.
Two dead patients are always better than one, right? /sarc
It is time for the terrible swift sword......
Quote of the Day ping!!!!!
Thanks.
BTT% for later.
I’m glad there’s another thread, where the facts of this case can be explored.
First a disclaimer: I have had four high-risk pregnancies and two of my children died, two survived. I am a retired nurse. I know what I am talking about.
This woman was aborted due to pulmonary hypertension. The mortality rate for mothers with this complication is about 1/3. I don’t know any woman who would kill a baby, under those circumstances.
The nun should be fired from the hospital and sent away from it. I suspect that she was looking for a test-case, and for that reason the truth about the voluntary abortion came out. I hope she is excommunicated. She approved this knowing FULL WELL that an abortion could not be permitted in this case.
This is disgusting. I cannot wait until these worldly nuns who are seeking to destory Christ’s Church from within are gone, all of them, and their radical agenda with them.
I do not think that surgery to treat an ectopic pregnancy is abortion.
I DO think that an abortion to treat pulmonary hypertension, which has effective medical treatment and good odds of survival, is murder.
If you want to discuss this here on this thread, fine. Murdering a child to remove any and all risk to the mother is still murdering a child.
This is a Catholic hospital and is forbidden to perform abortions. If you disagree, there are plenty of other hospitals where this mother could have gone, which don’t mind killing children. That wouldn’t have satisfied the feminazis, though, they have to bring this abomination to Catholic hospitals. Disgusting!
Prayers for Christ’s protection for you and your precious child.
This is the thread I referred to.
Exactly.
And here's the rub: if the death of the baby is seen as an undesirable side-effect to a procedure, then the research MD's can look for a way to improve the technology in order to save the baby at some point in the future. I have no idea how, but 50 years ago, they had no idea how to do things that are commonplace today.
I'm rather surprised that you didn't use the slur "rabid" to describe pro-lifers on this thread. (For any who are interested, Google "rabid pro-lifers" or "rabidly pro-life", etc. and it becomes obvious that "rabid" is a favorite term that abortionists use to describe the pro-life movement.)
There is NOTHING about this case that indicates that either the mother or the child needed to die. Yes, it was a "high risk" pregnancy, but NOBODY is saying that the mother was going to die without an abortion.
As I mentioned before, I challenge you to find a SINGLE pro-life group that opposes abortion when the mother will die without one. No groups oppose this, not the Catholic Church, not Operation Rescue, not Priests for Life, NOBODY.
I understand that you lost a child and that the loss was NECESSARY to save your life. But it seems that you are now using that as an excuse to push a pro-abortion agenda.
Agreed.
That's just playing sophist games with ourselves. Such ethical/mental gymnastics are unbecoming of a moral people. If you cut off someone's source of life, then you have killed him.
I didn't fire him. I just closed the store he worked in.
I didn't kill her. I just ordered she couldn't have food or drink.
