For me it was pretty simple. I’m just not comfortable around homosexual priests. My father grew up in a strict Catholic family, went to Catholic school his entire life, and Boston College. He entered the seminary and was there less than 3 months because of one reason - he said 90% of the seminarians were gay. The culture was terrible. He left and never looked back (this was the mid 1960’s)
His own cousin is still a priest, but lives with another man and is pretty openly gay. This is not a small percentage of priests...
I will not raise my young sons in the church as I just don’t trust the priests. Sorry if that makes me a bigot.
Same thing with my aunt. She went into a nunnery and saw a lot of disgusting and vile behaviors. She left and never went back.
You make it sound like every other priest is homosexual. I've lived in 5 different states, and have been a member of at least 7 different parishes, and I have YET to encounter a priest who was homosexual, at least not that I could tell. I also know about a lot more priests than were in those parishes, because my brother-in-law is a priest, and I know many of the priests in his Diocese, because I grew up in that Diocese.
Yes, there are some priests who are homosexual, but it's clearly not THAT many. And there has been a LOT of press about abusive priests, but remember, those abusers were only about 2% of ALL the priests in the past 50 years, so we're not talking about a large number, though even ONE is too many.

The wise ones will be back. It’s been that way since the beginning. People make seriously wrong choices. Some even voted for Obama. Bottom line is that the Church has over 1.5 Billion members. A few will stray; most will come back. It’s the one True Church.......so folks either use their God given noggin’ or they check out for a long lunch. Pray for them, when you can. They can come back anytime. The Church will be here for all time.
There aren’t so many gay priests when you leave the big cities and the coasts.
