What is Father Corapi’s Answer to Turning Back the Tide of Darkness? [Catholic Caucus]

Our Lady

Catholics Must Learn Their Faith
If We Are To Be The Salt and Light of the Earth!

One of the first things I became acutely aware of as I began ministering as a priest was that the vast majority of Catholics have never really learned their faith. For years I administered a simple test at the end of parish missions. The average grade, achieved by adults, was 43%. This failure translates into the ills and evils seen today in contemporary society. Why? For the simple reason that Catholic-Christians are called to be the salt and light of the world. When we fail to do so the world sinks under the weight of its sins. If we do not provide the moral compass to guide the world through dark and turbulent times, no one will.

Learning our faith is a moral mandate. It is not optional. We do it and please God, or we don’t do it and don’t please God. It isn’t rocket science and it doesn’t take that great a commitment in time and energy. To fail to do it is to fail in our mission, which is the same as the mission of the Redeemer – Redemption.

There is no opposition between learning and loving. If I love God and my neighbor as myself out of love for God (Charity) then I’ll want to know God (Truth). Our ignorance of basic moral and doctrinal teaching is ultimately harmful to ourselves, our families, our Church, our society and our world.

We should make a commitment to study our faith at least 30 minutes per day, 5 days per week – or some comparable program. Read the Catechism of the Catholic Church, which will in turn help you to understand your reading of Sacred Scripture. You should be able to answer the basic moral questions of the day, as well as give simple explanations for the Church’s basic doctrinal teaching. Failure to do so results in gross error in faith in morals both among the clergy and among the faithful. Pray the rosary daily. By praying the rosary daily, Our Lady will lead you to her Son in the Eucharist, and her Son will obtain for you the grace to obey the Holy Father and magisterial teaching. Praying the rosary with the scriptures is a lesson in theology however, you must learn to read scripture the way the Church reads scripture. Therefore, the Bible and the Catechism are inseparable tools to learning the Catholic Faith.

As the darkness settles in ever greater layers our only defense is prayer, the sacraments, and learning all you can about the Catholic Faith. There will be no defense for not learning your faith before the judgment seat of Almighty God. All the resources are there, but you must be proactive in obtaining the knowledge.

God Bless You,

Father John Corapi

Catechism of the Catholic ChurchWas watching EWTN last night and Father John Corapi (on tape) was talking on the Rosary, enthusiastic as usual. He kept saying "Pray the Rosary, PRAY THE ROSARY, PRAY THE ROSARY!"

I have the book, and plenty of Rosaries.

I say the Rosary every day during the work week. I still need to discipline myself to do it on the weekends.

I'm getting there....

I love Father Corapi. He's going to be here in central Wisconsin in a few weeks. I couldn't get tickets to see him, but will try and get to see him at the meet and greet the night before his talk.

I love watching him!

Me too! I love how they cut away to the audience, and they're just enjoying the world out of him (and his message). Really cool priest who tells it like it is.

Wow, they were sold out? I hope you connect at the meet and greet. It would be so much fun to meet him. And continued plaudits on the rosary-recitations. :):)

The vast majority of people are uninterested in anything they can’t see, taste, touch, etc. Most of what’s in the news, like “deficits,” “spending,” “Al Gore,” is of no interest to people because it bears no relation to normal human experience.

For most people, “church” is about school (if there is one), or turkey or spaghetti suppers. It’s about people.

The “Trinity,” the “Incarnation”—abstractions. (Not really, of course.)

This is why the crimes of the liturgical vandals and atrocitists have done so much harm. They wrecked beautiful churches and trashed good music and raped the language with their atrocious translations and improvisations. They smashed everything that assisted the average person to put himself in the presence of God.

Thank goodness we have the likes of Father Corapi out there to keep reminding us of the importance of our faith.

Relevant Radio, which can be found on the internet, does daily programs of Father Corapi's talks. (We can get it on our FM stations here in Wisconsin.)

I love listening to him.

i have learned so much about my faith by being on FR.

My priest jokes with me that I know everything, but of course, I don’t.

I’ve just learned a lot and am still learning now.

Thought — Why is it dangerous to be in a rut?

Because a rut is a grave with the ends kicked out.

Catholics — get out of your ruts — learn to say the Rosary. Learn how to do Lectio Divina while reading the Scriptures. Learn about the Lives of the Saints. Read the writings of the Early Church Fathers and try to understand them.

Learn your Catechism.........I have a friend who keeps a copy of the big green Catechism on her bedstand and she reads something from it every night! Now that’s an undertaking!

Has he always had the web-based subscription service which provides his weekly video/audio homily? He was talking about that last night; here's the link.

My favorite line from Fr Corapi,

"I love you all dearly, but I ain't going to hell for you."

My parish priest often says it to us when he is explaining how it is his duty as a priest to call us on our sins, and he will be responsible for failure to do so.

I am so going to miss him. Next week is his last Sunday with us before his new assignment as head of three mergered churches.

That’s a good line to have for those who espouse false ideas about the Catholic Church.

You are so correct! On every point! Catholics don't really need "typical" fellowship. I'm almost proud to say I only know by name about five or six people at our parish (actually we go to three different ones now) altogether, and I've been going to daily Mass with my husband for over 25 years. Yet, I KNOW each and every one of them, better than my birth-family members (especially the daily-Massers!), because I know them through Christ in the breaking of the Bread. (The third Church we picked up in our Roamin' Catholic line-up --Jan.1 of this year-- is one that has both Novus Ordo Latin and the Tridentine (pictured). So incredibly respectful ...

Praise Jesus! My Mom always prayed the rosary. A Bible in one hand and a rosary in the other while praying. My mother was in the Rosary Society, the Blue Army and The Franiscan Third Order, when this woman prayed nothing but miracles. One son lost at sea the coast guard gave up hope but she told them go back where to an area they covered before, then found him. My father had a stroke. While the doctor told my mother he would be like this for life. She said no way he’s the provider for the family. He was healed within a week went back to work. My brother was marine during the vietnam war. Came back alive which he did not understand until she told him she prayed that he would not have to kill or be killed by another, he was a radio operator which came out of no where for him to do which filled the requirement of her pray. Which is not to say anything bad about the others who died in the war because I believe theres no atheists in foxhole, if not all most met the Lord sooner. My brother became a deacon of the Church and had a Family. I could tell you more but when there’s too many coincidences God is over your shoulder! Praise Jesus and As the Angel announced Hail Mary indeed! Also thank you for your defense of Jesus and Mary. Remember They know not what they say. I know I left the church for 5 years believed some of that anti-stuff too then the Holy Spirit tugged at my heart.

I LOVE IT!! And sorry to hear you're losing your parish priest. He's going to be busy with three parishes. I'll pray you get a spiritually strong replacement.

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.

I promised Fr. that he would always remain in my prayers.

Two of our last three parish priest have been from Malta.

I have met our new priest and he has a beautiful voice almost singing the Mass. It is always hard getting a new priest. IN any case my present priest's homilies are on youtube and he said they will continue to be so at his new parish.

I can always go and check out his homilies if I need a spiritual boost.

There are so many stories I have heard as well from good and faithful servants of the Lord that defy expectations.

We are so filled with Grace when we turn to prayer.

My grandma always said,"Sweet Jesus be my love" at anytime of the day.

This one of the things I am going to miss the most about Fr.

His dedication of all baptised babies to Our Blessed Mother.
