I seriously wonder about some FReepers, sometimes. Any other person accused of a crime would be defended by every FReeper as being innocent until proven guilty by a court of law. I've seen whole threads written by men who have been accused of child abuse by ex-wives out to deny them their visitation rights or to wrest more money out of them. These men are rightly indignant, and furious about the unjust accusations that cannot be proven but are never withdrawn.
Yet where are those FReepers when a PRIEST is accused? Where is the presumption of innocence? Suddenly, every accusation becomes a verdict, and not only the accused but his entire organization and all its adherents are held responsible.
I can only wonder what some of these so-called conservatives (who so faithfully defend the Constitution) would do, if THEY were the ones accused! It is a nightmare for any man -- all of you know how even the accusation stains the man forever, even if it is proven false!
Not only that, many here assert that the problems of 30, 40 and even 50 years ago must be tried in the media TODAY!
Remember the Duke rape case? There are more similarities than differences here. The priests are accused, nifonged, and instead of being defended, they are vilified!
What other man of you could stand under the weight of such an accusation trumpeted by the press, and come out whole? None! And such accusations made, LONG after the statute of limitations has passed, sometimes even after the accused is dead and buried for YEARS -- are YOU one of those who automatically, reflexively, spitefully, and gleefully act as judge, jury, and executioner?
Women! What if it were YOUR HUSBAND, YOUR BROTHER, YOUR FATHER, YOUR UNCLE, YOUR SON who was accused? Wouldn't you want the best defense possible? Wouldn't YOU believe in their innocence? Wouldn't YOU help protect your loved ones as much as possible? And yet, YOU JUDGE THE CHURCH FOR DOING WHAT YOU WOULD DO?
Shame! Vast shame! On all who have sinned against the innocent!
LOL, that is so good!
I love your responses they are so spot on!
I perceive every thing unfolding precisely according to God's will - including all of Scripture, language, geopolitics and translations whether good or bad.
Amen Sister!
I’m so sorry to disappoint you and not offer more grist for you to find argument in. I am of the mind that the syllogism is self-evident, since even Luther’s movement arose from his Priestly status.
what’s untrue?
There is, in every mass, every day, an Old Testament Reading, a New Testament reading, and a Gospel reading.
Oh, excuse me, everything the Catholics do is a) wrong or b) inferior, according to the protties. So, even if the Catholics read the Bible at every mass, they're reading it wrong. Right?
Luther wasn’t alive at the day of penecost.
Then we will go our seemingly separate ways and I wish you all the best in your journey.
Catch up.
The Catholic Church didn’t officially come into existence until about 400 AD.
There were a lot of missionary journeys made during the time of the Acts of the Apostles and Thomas is reputed to have gone as far east as India. My understanding is that there was a growing church in North Africa during the early Church years as well, but early church history was never much of an interest of mine (well, any history for that matter).
This is a decent summary of it.

The Catholic Church cannot take responsibility for evangelizing the world.
Where I'm sitting it's a peaceful Friday afternoon, work is kind of quiet for a change and it's fun to just catch up on things with my FReeper brothers and sisters in Christ.
IOW, life is good and people are crazy!
You are absolutely and unequivocally correct, as men count Time. Has it ever occurred to you though that God could see the advent of Luther as clearly on That Day as the on that listeners heard different tongues that day?
Your statement is ambiguous. I can take it to mean something about what you or Catholics do believe or not believe, or Christ was not referring to the Torah and the Prophets when He said “It is written”. Being at the high school level in my comprehension today, I can’t determine which it is.
Okay.
So Christ wasn’t referring to the Hebrew scriptures, then what was He referring to? The future writings of disciples?
I am fully bilingual (RC-Protestant speak). I frequently translate for Protestants and Catholics who don't comprehend what each other are saying.
This mess has enough to go around for any Christians.
I would observe the following: It is true that other professionals abuse children and adolescents, and it is probably true that the percentage of abusers among teachers and other "caring professionals" is higher than among Catholic priests.
But it is also true that, in the late "scandal", now ending, there was an organized and systematic aspect to it which is lacking in these other cases.
I have no doubt, based on observation, anecdote, and common sense that male homosexuals in the RC clergy engaged in something of a joint enterprise or at least had a mutual interest in a) Finding and exploiting vulnerable teenaged boys, b) Cooperating with one another and with certain bishops to evade detection, and c) Facilitating denial and blame-shifting once cases were discovered.
Because this "mutual aid society" is not yet extirpated, and because its very existence is anti-scriptural AND opposed to sacred tradition, it remains a problem.
This problem, of course, is of use to enemies of the Church. But even the Father of Lies fears God. The problem would be a problem, EVEN IF NO ONE KNEW.
And until the problem is eliminated, the hierarchical structure, believed by Catholics to be prescribed by scripture, is in danger through its own malfeasance.
At least, that's how I see it.
I suppose you would chide me if I referred to ‘the catholic and apostolic Church’ as a means to clarify. The Creeds were authored out of the Catholic organization. ... And please, don’t misconstrue what I’ve posted as a blind defense of the Roman Church. But do accept my humble assertion as my heartfelt belief that the Roman Church has been used by God to spread the Gospel.
Ah, but will you still respect me in the morning?
I don’t believe in predestination for one; and I also believe that the tongues on penecost were just languages so those who were there that day could understand the message of good news.
You see this mindset in mainline (read liberal) Protestant denominations too. They will tell you Paul was a misogynist, the he was just writing through the lens of his era when he told us that homosexuality was a sin, etc.
It ALL goes back to the first sin when Satan posed the question did God really say.....
AMEN!
Men either trust the word of God or they don't.
