I know that's frustrating.

• Christians get attacked because we hold up a standard. Just like America gets attacked for holding up standards of democracy and human rights. The standards are perfect and nobody fully lives up to them. But that doesn't make holding up the standard wrong. It's the not living up to them that is wrong and subjects us to attacks.
• Catholics get attacked more, in part, because frankly, you're bigger. The larger the organization the more subject to attack it is. Again same with America. It's not fair, but c'est la vie.
• And last but not least, you're being attacked because there really were cover-ups. The church didn't handle those situations well and didn't have sufficient controls in place. So you live and learn, and you correct it now. The new pope seems to be moving in the right direction.

Yes, and when Catholics, who claim to live up to a high moral standard, fall below that standard, they should expect to be attacked for hypocricy. Whining about "persecution" (what makes you think people should automatically respect your Church, particularly in a time of scandal) and saying that "everyone does it" makes "Kool Aid Catholics" look even worse.

The Eurotrash in Rome and the Post-Vat II Bishops brought this all on themselves, and the laity should have been forming virtual lynch mobs instead of rushing to defend clerics and bishops who were exposed by the secular authorities to be involved in acts of perversion.

Cleansing is indeed going on in the Church, but it will take another 20-30 years until the "pipes are clean and operational."
