You were taught wrong!
It was a week with two ‘sabbaths,’ Passover, and the regular sabbath two days later.
Christ was crucified on what would be wednesday, and arose on what we would call saturday evening, which by the Jews reckoning was the “first of the sabbaths,” translated incorrectly as the first day of the week in English Bibles, but being really the beginning of the seven sabbaths of Pentecost.
Nothing about the crucifixion and ressurection happened on a sunday.
