Do Mormons need an Anti-Defamation League?

Jews have one. Catholics have one. Do Mormons need an independent anti-defamation group...
-- I suppose Latter-day Saints shouldn't be too surprised the latest put-down from Chuck Colson, leader of the Prison Fellowship. Ironically, it was as he and leaders of Christian groups announced a new "civility covenant."
When a reporter asked if the covenant should include Glenn Beck, CNN reported Colson saying that the document:
"Wouldn't apply to Glenn Beck because we're talking about the conversation in the family of believers ... Glenn Beck is a Mormon." CNN continues: "Many Christians don't consider Mormons -- members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints -- to be Christians, though Mormons consider themselves Christian."
Colson's statements follow a long line of less-than-civil evangelical exclusionary actions including keeping Mormons out of National Day of Prayer services to a Christian student press group excluding BYU journalism students from its competition.

Here's another example from friends at the ADL during the campaign entitled "Judge Romney by his platform, not his Mormonism":
"But two recent polls found that at least one quarter of Americans said they would not vote for a Mormon for president. These findings are troubling and disappointing, but so is the fact that some religious conservatives have compared the Mormon religion to a 'cult' and its doctrines to paganism. The Web site of Pat Robertson's Christian Broadcasting Network, for example, says the religious beliefs of Mormons 'are simply wrong,' and 'when it comes to spiritual matters, the Mormons are far from the truth.' While doctrinal differences and debates among Christian groups are their own theological business, such assertions are surely painful and disturbing."

You and I have come to different conclusions about Joseph Smith.
Joseph Smith was a famous Preacher in the Eastern USA. His teaching empire grew to include acquisition of valuable printing assets and intimate dealings with the Missouri courts.
He devoted several years of his early life to exploratory service, finally taking leave to assume his dealings with various Spiritual Beings.
As an adjunct to his exploratory work, Mummies and papyrus are purchased from Michael Chandler. On July 19, 1835 at age 29; Joseph began translating the papyrus. It will be known as the Book of Abraham, generating quite a lot of interest by leading archeological experts.
In 1844, he was a key player in a vital investigation run by the authorities in Carthage, Hancock County, Illinois. That same month, Smith passed away during an important civic function held in his honor when the excitable group who had come to visit him pressed too many into the room he was in and his death resulted.

some nights I don’t enjoy these posts.
The other side never rebutts with anything factual and it is very disconcerting.
They only say “It doesn’t say that” or some other pablum and then I scratch my head go read the D&C, BoM again and then I am left with a “What?” and simple perplex.

We cant prove our claims. You are an honest man.
You have my respect.
That said; you really need to get away from FEELINGS and take an HONEST look at the HISTORY of the LDS religious organization.
Use their material.

I always think it interesting that many Mormons probably support Romney just because he IS Mormon.

Actually, the modern doctrines of slander and libel also take into account the number of people exposed to a defamatory statement; a false statement on a network television broadcast, though spoken, would be treated as libel today.
