The Jewish holiday of Passover for 2010 begins at sundown on Monday and lasts the next seven days. It is the celebration of the Israelites coming out of slavery in Egypt.
The biblical event takes place in Exodus 10 through 13 in the Old Testament.
God instructed the Jewish people to mark their doorposts with lambs blood so He would pass over them when slaying the first born of Egypt (the last of the 10 Plagues causing Pharoah to release them from bondage).
Many Christian churches have begun incorporating a Passover Seder (say-der, meaning service) into their activities around Easter.
Passover is what Jesus and the apostles were celebrating at the Last Supper, because they were Jewish men with Jewish observances:
This is a day you are to commemorate; for the generations to come you shall celebrate it as a festival to the Lord a lasting ordinance. (Exodus 12:14)
Then came the day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed. Jesus sent Peter and John, saying go and make preparations for us to eat the Passover. (Luke 22:7-8)
Passover is also celebrated by Jewish believers Jews who believe that Jesus is the Messiah of both the Jews and Christians. Psalm 22; Isaiah 11:1, 7:14; Zechariah 9:9, Matthew 1:1-16, 21:7; Mark 15; John 3:16 are a few parallel passages in the Old and New Testament supporting this belief.
Jesus Hebrew name is Yeshua the Lord saves. Jewish believers attend Messianic Synagogues or Christian churches.
How is Passover celebrated?
The opening night Passover Service (seder) is usually held in family homes or in unison as entire congregations. A large meal is served, with some items representing the hardships faced in Egypt and in the desert.
Prior to the meal, attendees read from the Haggadah, which is the re-telling of the Exodus story. The Haggadah has existed for about 300 years and includes songs about the sacrificial lamb and the escape via the Red Sea.
How does the perspective differ for Christians and Messianic Jewish believers?
The story of the Exodus remains the same. But countless parallels exist for Christians and Jewish believers between the lambs sacrificed in the Old Testament, and Jesus as the Ultimate Sacrifice.
There are also striking prophetic similarities between the first Passover dinner in the book of Exodus, present-day Jewish Passover activities, and what Jesus did at the Last Supper:

I will be observing the L-rd’s Supper as commanded...
As Christian, I cannot ignore the first passover, given Christ became the one and for all time perfect blood sacrifice... and the reason given.... It need be.. and Paul was educated into the Hebrew, and so I do not and cannot distinguish the 'old' from the 'new' testament as applying to this or that. And I am told that when this 'flesh' age ends all will have full memory reinstalled as to the purpose of this flesh age.
As will I.
I have always gotten a big kick out of the people that observe the resurrection of Jesus Christ with a HAM dinner...
Well, they had the First Council at the Jerusalem Church to talk about that, doncha know... :-)
Acts Chapter 15 6 Now the apostles and elders came together to consider this matter. 7 And when there had been much dispute, Peter rose up and said to them: "Men and brethren, you know that a good while ago God chose among us, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel and believe. 8 So God, who knows the heart, acknowledged them by giving them the Holy Spirit, just as He did to us, 9 and made no distinction between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. 10 Now therefore, why do you test God by putting a yoke on the neck of the disciples which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? 11 But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved in the same manner as they." 12 Then all the multitude kept silent and listened to Barnabas and Paul declaring how many miracles and wonders God had worked through them among the Gentiles. 13 And after they had become silent, James answered, saying, "Men and brethren, listen to me: 14 Simon has declared how God at the first visited the Gentiles to take out of them a people for His name. 15 And with this the words of the prophets agree, just as it is written: 16 'After this I will return And will rebuild the tabernacle of David, which has fallen down; I will rebuild its ruins, And I will set it up; 17 So that the rest of mankind may seek the Lord, Even all the Gentiles who are called by My name, Says the Lord who does all these things.' 18 "Known to God from eternity are all His works. 19 Therefore I judge that we should not trouble those from among the Gentiles who are turning to God, 20 but that we write to them to abstain from things polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from things strangled, and from blood. 21 For Moses has had throughout many generations those who preach him in every city, being read in the synagogues every Sabbath." 22 Then it pleased the apostles and elders, with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas, namely, Judas who was also named Barsabas, and Silas, leading men among the brethren. 23 They wrote this letter by them: The apostles, the elders, and the brethren, To the brethren who are of the Gentiles in Antioch, Syria, and Cilicia: Greetings. 24 Since we have heard that some who went out from us have troubled you with words, unsettling your souls, saying, "You must be circumcised and keep the law"--to whom we gave no such commandment-- 25 it seemed good to us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, 26 men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 27 We have therefore sent Judas and Silas, who will also report the same things by word of mouth. 28 For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things: 29 that you abstain from things offered to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from sexual immorality. If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well. Farewell. 30 So when they were sent off, they came to Antioch; and when they had gathered the multitude together, they delivered the letter. 31 When they had read it, they rejoiced over its encouragement.
Your ham dinner is included in this ... :-)
Bump your post.
Okay...

Come home.
During the Millennial Kingdom on this earth, with the Messiah of Israel ruling over the nations of this world -- we'll all be talking about the same Messiah -- at that time -- who will be seated on the Throne of David, in Jerusalem ... :-)

The U.S. and the Jews have much in common.
They celebrate their freedom, leaving slavery from Egypt.
We celebrate ours, freedom of religion, when the first pilgrims came here. Freedom of religion. Freedom to be Christians. What was the religion they left so they could come here and be Christians?
Both countries, Same thing.
Really? I didn't know that.
It doesn't matter much to me; I'm a Christian and will be celebrating the Paschal festival with the rest of my Christian brothers and sisters around the world. We do stuff that's very definitely not pagan, like washing feet, reading Scripture, celebrating the Lord's Supper, and baptizing new Christians.
If youd like to be on or off, please FR mail me.

Well, I wouldn't politicize it very much at all, as it wasn't a political movement that they were involved in ... either with the Jews or the Christians, as both have the same God, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and both will live under the same Messiah of Israel, on this earth, when He rules from Jerusalem, over all the nations of the world (which is soon to come, in the lifetimes of many who read this on Free Republic).
The "freedom" that the Bible speaks of ... is contained in the word "salvation".
And that salvation is (1) freedom from the penalty of sin, (2) freedom from the power of sin, and (3) freedom from the presence of sin.
We receive the three-fold "freedom" that God provides through the Messiah of Israel and accepting His salvation that was planned out before the universe was even created.
Right now -- and immediately -- we receive (1) freedom from the penalty of sin (which is death, separation from God for eternity in the lake of fire, Revelation 20).
As we live in this life, (2) we receive freedom from the power of sin, by way of the Holy Spirit living in us, as a child of God, having been "born again" (as Jesus explained to one of the Pharisees).
And, as we are told at the end of Revelation, after the Great White Throne Judgement, we (3) receive freedom, totally, from the presence of sin, forevermore after that.
That is true freedom, unlike anything "political" that can ever be offered.
THANKS THANKS.
