Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments today on the front-page article in today's New York Times about priestly sexual abuse:
Media requests to deal with this subject make it difficult to provide an adequate response to today's article by Laurie Goodstein. But the time has come to ask some serious questions about why the Times is working overtime with wholly discredited lawyers to uncover dirt in the Catholic Church that occurred a half-century ago. Those questions will be raised in an ad I am writing that will be published in next Tuesday's New York Times; a rejoinder to the article will also be made. All I can say now is that this is the last straw.
.... still waiting for their editorial condemning the Scots for releasing Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrahi, who was convicted of murdering 270 people over Lockerbie in Scotland in 1988 and who was released last year for dubious medical reasons. No the truth is the Times picked up on an old, terrible story and used a thin connection to tie it to the Pope in an attempt to discredit him. That's it. The British tabloids would be proud of the Times' efforts.
NY Times goes all tabloid on the Pope
A “half century” ago?
This sick homo was abusing kids as late as 1974 and, after abusing 200, still worked around kids for another 24 years.
Sure, scum lawyers and the NY Slimes will use this to attack the church but attacks like these force the Church to be more careful about homosexuals and the “Pink Palace” seminaries than ever before.
The tabloid reporting going on has been disgraceful. It always seems to intensify right before Easter too. I would surmise that Satan doesn’t like being reminded of his defeat and predictably influences the secular left to express his tantrums in this world.
Consider this. Weakland was himself a homosexual and a card carrying member of the lavender mafia. The accusations against Murphy were homosexual in nature. Is there any chance, do you think, that Weakland might have been inclined to cover for a fellow homosexual?? Might the fact that the civil authorities declined to prosecute Murphy have had something to do with the fact that Weakland swept evidence under the rug??
Of course not.........and you won't read such an outrageous suggestion in the NY Times. No, perish the thought.
Such an obvious connection is far too tenuous for a fine investigative journal such as the Times. And we certainly wouldn't want to be accused of homophobia!
No, we have bigger fish to fry here.
How can we stitch up the Pope on this one? Let's pin this mess on him!
Two reasons the media will start attacking the Catholic Church now:
1. They always print something contriversial right before Easter.
2. The REAL Catholic Church was more out spoken against the Heath Care Bill and the media wants to make sure the Church is somehow discredited before the next “reform” so it’s voice will be minimized. (We’re seeing the same with Sarah Palin and the Tea Party)
A lay sister insisted to me that these are not homosexuals but pedophiles.
Ask her why the vast majority of victims are pre-teen boys.
Freegards
This was my point.
What did she say when you pointed that out?

Let’s not forget re Weakland that this was the bishop who, as a gesture, sent his resignation to the Vatican expecting the Law treatment and it was accepted.
Interesting observations. Thanks for the post and ping!
You are misinformed. Many studies show that 80-90% of the victims were adolescents, not pre-teen boys. Not an excuse. Not a defense of the "filth" in the Church. Just correcting the facts.
FReeregards.

FReepers be careful. If you find yourself on the same side of an issue with the NYT, it probably suggests that you should pause and reconsider your opinion.
I hope she said that you were greatly misinformed.
Exactly. Arrest Weakland:
Archbishop Rembert Weakland of Milwaukee, the most liberal bishop in America, has been disgraced by the revelation that he paid $450,000 in hush money to buy the silence of an apparent former male lover.
?
I know the majority of abuse was caused by homosexualists in the 50s-70s. Maybe my use of “pre-teen” was technically the wrong term to use, the point was that most of the victims are male, correct?
Freegards
I understand your confusion. Of course it is homosexuality and predominantly 'boys'. The liberal media doesn't accept that though.
**How can we stitch up the Pope on this one? Let’s pin this mess on him!**
I’m thinking that we all need to put Pope Benedict into our Prayer Intentions.
May God bless and protect him! What would we do without him?
