Did White House try to threaten Life Congressional supporters with Nun Vote?
Ann Arbor Examiner ^ | March 20,, 2010 | Kevin Fobbs

The Obamacare vote is literally coming down to the wire with millions of emails and tens of thousands of calls bombarding Capitol Hill this week. Yet according to conservative right to life supporter Congressman Bart Stupak (D-Mich)in the midst of this his coalition of die-hard life supporting congressmen are standing with his life stand to vote no for the Obamacare Bill.

This week the White House pulled out what could be considered their “Nun Ace Card” by touting according to Fox News, a letter purporting to represent 59,000 nuns that urged congressional representatives to pass the health care bill. Congressman Bart Stupak, D-Mich, responded sharply to White House officials and dismissed the action “by the White House saying, ‘When I'm drafting right to life language, I don't call up the nuns."’He says he instead confers with other groups including ‘leading bishops, Focus on the Family, and The National Right to Life Committee’,”.

Is this dirty politics?

It is typical politics when respect for principles of life are easily discarded when it is the administration in Washington and the Capitol Hill cronies who...

A nun, a kenyan, and plumber standing in a streetcorner. LOL,, the jokes write themselves. How on God’s green earth are nuns the ultimate authority on what Jesus desires us to do, or on national healthcare policy?

And what if Baptist women stand differently on the issue? What will we do then?

The good news is that the Nuns on Fox News said that abortion was absolutely out of the health care bill. I think that is making people more confortable. The other thing is that they are having people with precondition illnesses to be allowed to keep their insurance. Also they are having children allowed on parents insurance until 27. Those three things are making people very confortable with the bill. Even I am thrilled that those three items are on the bill. I would lower the age of the child on insurance a bit but overall those three items cannot possibly be a problem with people.

I pray Stupak and his pro-life group stand firm against abortion and everything in this bill.

He will since abortion is not in the bill. The nun read the entire bill and nothing about abortion funding is in the bill. Relax at least about the abortion protion. I am 100 percent pro life and thrilled the bill does not pay for abortions.

And you got bought cheap.

59,000 nuns is quite a significant number and don’t forget that Foxnews was the source.

These “nuns” are decidedly NOT Catholic.

They masquerade as such in order to seem legitimate, but they are wholly illegitimate, which is why the pope has ordered a full review of their disordered organizations (which theyhave squawked about as if the pope has no business in rooting out their heresies).

You are wrong there. These “nuns” (who are mostly NOT nuns, but instead, sisters - there is a substantial difference) have NO canonical status to make such pronouncements on behalf of religious women. This similar to when the ABA or AMA pretends to speak for all of its members.

NYer posted a thread about nuns AGAINST Obamacare — I believe it was over 100,000. I’ll look for the thread.

You’re out of your mind. This bill will destroy this country.

Why don’t you go over to D.U.? Your viewpoint is more in line with theirs than the convervatives on this board.

What is your problem? You can't have a normal discussion? I mention three positives and you bash me. What the heck is wrong with you???? You act exactly like DU when President Bush was President and nobody was allowed to say things positive about the administration without getting bashed just as you are doing. I feel sorry for you and your inability to find anything positive about your life. I will pray for your soul at mass tomorrow because you need it badly.

You are wrong. Taxpayer funded abortion on demand is in the Senate bill.

That’s why Stupak is taking such a principled stand on this illegal usurption of the Hyde Amendment and voting ‘NO’ to Obamacare.

Those renegade radical left-wing nuns need to be EXCOMMUNICATED along with NANCY PELOSI for creating a condition of OUTRAGEOUS SCANDAL in the eyes of all people.

The Holy Father needs to make it crystal clear that ANY Roman Catholic House member voting ‘YES’ for Obamacare will be PUBLICALY EXCOMMUNICATED from the Roman Catholic Church.

Save your prayers for the abortion victims that this bill will produce. There is nothing “good” or true about any of the points you touted. The abortion language would cost Pelosi at least 40 votes and she is committed to keeping it in. Watch an actual sound bite if you don’t believe me. And you think it’s good to keep GROWN adults on the parents insurance until they are 27??!! You are a symptom of the disease. My son will take care of his own insurance; he’s not a welfare rat.

I think you are confusing the two bills. Today I have been watching Fox News all day and they even mentioned those three items I mentioned. I did not come up with them myself :) that is for sure.
