The science that compares one religion with another in order to find their common elements and to trace their development from primitive forms to their present beliefs and practices. The Catholic Church encourages such study, provided its purpose is not to disprove the unique character of Christianity or to try to prove that the Christian religion naturally evolved from previous religious systems.
