This is sad...It was written by a young mormon ...

The Mormon Octopus

I’m going to name a list of Mormon tentacles, just to get you all started. Feel free to list more.

1. Callings-When I got home from my mission, I was forced to go on a speaking circuit to different stakes to tell them about my mission. I was lying through my teeth every time, talking about my mission. I hated it and hated the fact that they were just trying to tie more ropes around my neck, like Brigham Young’s cows, AKA, the Mormon people.

2. Financial obligation

3. Peer pressure

4. Lack of validation from others, leading to an individual seeking out the church when his/her basic needs aren’t met as a human being. It’s cheap manipulation, but if there’s anything that makes me want to go back to the church, it’s peer approval, having to currently live among so many Mormons. Sadly, I know that peer approval from a Mormon is even more worthless than I have ever been in a worthiness interview. It’s so shallow.

5. Guilt, and always having to rely on the church for validation of self-esteem, much like number 4, only it comes from leaders who don’t even care about you most of the time. It’s sad I once based so much of my worth off of what some old bald guy told me about how worthy I was or not.
(I’ve been reading a lot lately about Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and this is what I base most of this stuff off of. In order to move on in life, we need our lower needs met, and those have to do with love and belongingness). Of course, for a Mormon, the only way to have those needs met is through the church. So, it creates psychological dependence.

6. I read once on this board about how, instead of simply not paying tithing and paying the bills, one should pay tithing first and then come groveling to the bishop for money. It again is another psychological rope where the church is associated with something so simple, like food, that the dependence that comes as a byproduct of such action becomes unbreakable.

7.Using up everything that is precious and personal to you and turning it into something to further the agenda of the church. When the church reaches its slimy tentacle into every aspect of your life, you have the almost impossible task of getting free from it.

8. Mormon underwear, which kind of refers to number 7. When the church goes into the bedroom, which is the only place the church should not be regardless of any explanation, it has fully enveloped every aspect of your life. The last tentacle has reached in and grabbed you and you can no longer get free without being harmed. I once even read a talk or something from Jeffrey R. Holland where he said that sex was actually a sacrament. Now, I’ve never had sex before, but the idea of having the church invade such an aspect of my life in such a way mortified me to death. I already found the church to be abusive in its demands on time and energy on my mission, but that was going too far. When you’re a devout Mormon, you just can’t get a break from the Mormon church. I could never shake the disturbing thought that the Mormon Jesus would be watching me having sex or at least that I would be forced to think about God while having sex. Talk about taking the pleasure out of it! And people in the church wonder why there’s so many sexless and unhappy marriages.

CHRISTIAN. A name first given to the followers of our Lord at Antioch (Acts xi, 26). Since the rise of Protestantism the name has been used in so many different senses as to have become almost meaningless: it may indicate a Catholic or a Unitarian, or even be applied to an infidel who displays some virtue which is associated with Christ. It may reasonably be applied to the members of all the ancient churches whether in communion with the Holy See or not, and to those Protestants who profess, explicitly or implicitly, the Nicean creed in its traditional Interpretation. The Church puts no definite official meaning on the word, as she does on Catholic. (Catholic Dictionary, Donald Attwater 1958, TAN Books)

And

Slightly Older Catechism: Protestant: Protestants teach that everyone should read the Bible and interpret it for himself. As a result, they do not agree within their own ranks as to just what is to be believed. Indeed, the number of Protestants who believe in the Trinity is diminishing rapidly; and many who profess to believe in it have only a vague notion of what the Trinity means. Therefore, there are many Protestants, including Protestant ministers, who either doubt or deny Christ's divinity, and so can hardly be considered Christians."

You are in conflict and I don't even think you have an understanding of the realities behind the definitions you cut and paste.

Yes, there are sects and cults that have fallen into heretical bends that deny certain truths such as the Trinity and Divinity of Christ. The are not even recognized by the Protestant movements from which some of them sprang. the LDS and JWs are examples of this

You post a definition that shows even the Catholic Church recognizes as fellow Christians those who indeed follow the same basic principles as the Catholic Church, then in turn post several screeds that says all protestant faiths are heretical and non Christian.

Not even your own Church says that.

Perhaps it is time to have this discussion with your Priest instead of folks on FR.

I think it is best to leave it up to the Lord to judge who is a true follower of Christ. Only He knows the thoughts and intents of our hearts.

More inconsistency. I haven't seen any Mormons rail on Lds "prophet" Hinckley for NOT leaving it up to the Lord to judge who is a true Mormon. (I mean Hinckley wouldn't even acknowledge that fundamentalist Mormons exist, let alone if they are Mormon!)

No. Instead, it's "let's all hail & bow down to our Amos-3:7 scripture-producing 'prophet' who hasn't really produced much new unique Mormon 'scripture' ever since Joe died."

A Sister Missionary from our Ward serving in Germany had a BUCKET of water thrown on her by an anti Mormon or just a creepy mean person. What’s your point?

What was the "sister" doing...pounding on the guy's door? Claiming the guy was going to hell because he wouldn't join the mormon church?

The comparison of getting wet to being butchered and your baby butchered alongside you is vomit-making...there are many instances of REAL "persecution" in this world and the mormons would be better off in throwing that old victim card away. All it does is make them look ridiculous and hysterical.

The Catholic church doesn't save either.

From the Catholic Bible......

http://www.drbo.org/chapter/51004.htm

Acts of the Apostles Chapter 4

6 And Annas the high priest, and Caiphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest. 7 And setting them in the midst, they asked: By what power, or by what name, have you done this? 8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said to them: Ye princes of the people, and ancients, hear: 9 If we this day are examined concerning the good deed done to the infirm man, by what means he hath been made whole: 10 Be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God hath raised from the dead, even by him this man standeth here before you whole.

11 This is the stone which was rejected by you the builders, which is become the head of the corner. 12 Neither is there salvation in any other. For there is no other name under heaven given to men, whereby we must be saved. 13 Now seeing the constancy of Peter and of John, understanding that they were illiterate and ignorant men, they wondered; and they knew them that they had been with Jesus.

So, why presume the anti-Mormon instead of just the creepy mean person?

Mormons aren't the only ones in this world mistreated, they just seem to like to present themselves that way.

If that's the worst they can complain about, they come across as a bunch of cry babies.

If one reads a troll's posting history, one usually can see that there is no intelligent contribution to the discussion on ANY of the posts..just nasty, snarky little comments that are meant to highlight the troll's supposed moral and/or intellectual superiority.

Instead, it highlights only the fact that trolls are usually too lazy, ignorant or incompetent to study the subject and provide meaningful comments thereon. They, and there are several, are a waste of time and bandwidth.

I want to follow Jesus, yes, the same Jesus who we read about in the New Testament.

I believe you are sincere in your beliefs, but incorrect in your interpretation of the Biblical Jesus. First - your view of Jesus is a priori filtered by the man joseph smith and the teachings of your apostles and prophets, secondly by your other standard works, and finally sculpted by your temple ceremonies. Your's is not a pure view of the Biblical Jesus and until you jettison those filters, you never will see the biblical Jesus.

Second President Brigham Young once remarked, "I know that Joseph Smith is a Prophet of God, that this is the Gospel of salvation, and if you do not believe it you will be damned, every one of you" (Journal of Discourses 4:298, March 29, 1857).

Oh, those anti-anti mormons

JESUS: Hmmmm. According to my Heavenly Facebook, you didn't sign in as one of my friends - sorry, I never knew you.

Now THAT'S funny, I don't care who you are!

Yes I did just make it up. It’s simple logic.

Let me get this straight, are you saying that everything the Catholic church teaches is the truth? How about the Inquisitions? Was that the truth of Christ? How about Saint Thomas More burning Lutherans at the stake? Was that the truth of Christ?

Look, Fo5, I’m not here to argue about religion and especially not attack anyone for their religious beliefs, unlike a certain few. I’m not going to convince you and you sure as hell aren’t going to convince me. This website’s purpose is to fight the avalanche of socialism thundering down upon us, not insult political allies.

Therefore, I bid you good day as I head off to work.

For all the Catholics on FR who deny that the Catholic church teaches that non-Catholics aren’t saved, that is certainly what I grew up being taught and believing.

Until I started thinking for myself.

The Roman Catholic Church technically doesn’t even recognize the Eastern Rites are legitimate, a sore spot to be sure with my relatives who were priests and nuns in that rite.

Protestants do not agree among themselves as to what constitutes a Christian, therefore, a Mormon can call themselves a Christian.

I could call myself a car, but that wouldn't give me four wheels and a steering wheel.

I'm a little confused by your posts...are you concerned with whether "Anti-mormons are Christian" or are you selling your own brand of faith and jumping on the mormon bandwagon thinking it will further your efforts?

Hardly a wise move.
