Whoever came up with those definitions, sure didn’t have an agenda. </sarc

I think it is best to leave it up to the Lord to judge who is a true follower of Christ. Only He knows the thoughts and intents of our hearts. He will judge justly according to His wisdom, love, justice and mercy.

I would also hope that any one of us who desires to be a follower of Christ would strive and pray to develop the gift of charity. I am sure that Jesus wants his followers to be kind, long suffering, humble, gentle and selfless.

I like these words of Paul:

Ephesians 4:31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: 32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

It is polite to ping those you mention in your posts. :)

I have looked up the ‘objections’. And you are partially correct the LDS don’t say non-Mormons will not go to ‘heaven’ (since they are pretty much universalists) but the LDS DO teach that non-Mormons will not return to the presence of God the father (Celestial Kingdom) and exaltation without being Mormon.

I have researched more about the LDS (using their own sources) than most LDS I have even known.

And most of the objections to the LDS HAVE been around for years because they have NOT been satisfactorily answered.

One of the most frustrating things when I was LDS was the real lack of coherent responses to objections to LDS history and doctrines. When I spoke to my Bishop about it, I was told not to worry, to ‘put it on a shelf’, lest I ‘think myself out of the LDS church’.

As I said earlier, the LDS church wants to be considered Christian so they are subject to the same scrutiny on history and doctrines as any other group.

They cannot go around calling themselves part of the body of Christ (esp since they believe that they are ‘the only true church on the face of the earth’) and not expect objections.

One would have been worth it, that there are two (and maybe more I don’t know of) is spiritual fuel to keep going.

Yes it is.

Hi Norm,

You never replied to my posting about the apostates a while back. Did you find anything about those posts that weren't true?

A false belief based upon a false Christ will lead to a false sense of Salvation.

The LDS worship a very different Christ from the Christians, your own leaders state that.

And the LDS are trying to earn their salvation while Christians know that there is NOTHING we can do to earn God’s favor (even a little bit).

And I am glad to hear you do not consider yourself a Christian.

9 posts before this thread in almost two years. It is always amazing to me how so many relatively inactive posters are pulled into these Mormonism discussions.

It depends on how you define anti-whatever. I am anti- all other churches, but I don't go and burn them down or anything. I respect their right to worship as they want, but I do not agree with what they believe.

As to which churches are Christian, I believe most western churches are. I believe the Catholic Church is closest to pure Christianity. I used to believe that Mormonism was Christian, but the more I find out about what Mormons believe, the less I believe it is.

I have had friends and acquaintances who were Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist and other and no faiths. I try to be the best example of a Catholic as I can to them and to educate them in what we believe and why.

You were claiming apostates could be forgiven and not cast in to outer darkness according to Mormon doctrine. Here’s the post you didn’t respond to.

Really ???

What avenue wopuld you use to let lurkers know that mormonism is not Chrsaitianity ???

and to warn mormons that their beliefs are not Chrsitian ???

and that their mormon jesus is not the Chrsitian Jesus of the Bible ???

Let’s seee what the mormons do believe about the Christian Jesus ...

Not the same Jesus
“There are those outside the Church who say Latter-day Saints do not believe in the traditional Christ.

No, I don’t. The traditional Christ of whom they speak is not the Christ of whom I speak.”

– LDS President Gordon B. Hinckley (LDS Church News, June 20, 1998)

“It is true that many of the Christian churches worship a different Jesus Christ than is worshipped by the Mormons.” – LDS publication, Ensign Magazine, May 1977, p. 26

Galatians 1
1: Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead;)
2: And all the brethren which are with me, unto the churches of Galatia:
3: Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ,
4: Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:
5: To whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
6: I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
7: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
8: But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
9: As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

Joseph Smith brought another Gospel. That is undeniable. It is Mormon Doctrine that all Christian Faiths were perverted and corrupt so a NEW book was brought, different right from the start. Another Gospel.

And Paul spells it out what that means.

The Bible condemns Mormonism right from the very start of Mormonism. All the other doctrines are already false, but right from it's origin, Mormonism presents a DIFFERENT GOSPEL, and THAT is why it fails the Christian test. Right from the start.

Excellent, as always. Sad thing is, many will repeat the tripe of the article just because they want to believe in the LDS church.
