When Glenn Beck told listeners of his radio show on March 2 that they should "run as fast as you can" from any church that preached "social or economic justice" because those were code words for Communism and Nazism, he probably thought he was tweaking a few crunchy religious liberals who didn't listen to the show anyway. Instead he managed to outrage Christians in most mainline Protestant denominations, African-American congregations, Hispanic churches, and Catholics...

I agree that the term ‘social gospel’ has been hijacked by the libs.
However, most Conservative Christians would agree that the cure for social ills is the same as the cure for spiritual ills, Jesus Christ.
I still don’t trust him. How can he be so smart about some things and so DUMB about others?
Well, I would say he hates the Jesus of the Bible. But then again, I know the difference between the LDS ‘Christ’ and the Biblical Christ.
Glenns truth assault has hit its
mark.

Now if he could just find the truth himself.
Glen Beck is very informative.
- - - - - - -
And VERY, VERY lost.
LDS did great in California with Prop. 8.

You know I am tired of the LDS getting all the credit for Prop 8 defeat. In my area (high gay pop) the Evangelical churches did more than the LDS and we were better organized.
Other churches fought it as well, there is NO proof that the LDS made the difference on whether or not it passed.
This type of religion seeks to implement the Golden Rule on the collective, as mandated by a government system

Which is what Beck’s church taught and lived for many years and expect to return to. It is a theocratic communism called the United Order.
Why does Amy Sullivan hate Glenn Beck? I’ll guess it’s because he’s not a Marxist, bless his heart.
I am not even sure what you mean by social ills. All I know is that The Nazarene himself told the apostles that He would not be with them ( on earth) for a long period and that the poor would always be with you.
I am called upon to do my best for those in need. no where do I find a call for government or the ‘organized’ church to do so
This is why we pray for him, dear friend...along with others who are in error as well regarding faith
social ills (breakdown of marriage, crime, abortion), the poor, the oppressed exactly what Christ taught.
Charity should come from individuals out of a Godly love, the Church (universal body of believers) not the Gov’t.
We agree.
Agreed.
I cannot stand to watch him. I just can’t do it. He is too much of a buffoon.
It's: Why Does Glenn Beck Hate Jesus?
In my opinion, because he's a Mormon means he's really not a devoted follower of Jesus.
I agree with you he's a conservative.
Colo could post chapter and verse of the Book of Mormon and you would claim it was a ‘mormon hate fest’.
Get over it.
He doesn't make it about his theology or doctrine. He doesn't define his Jesus. You couldn't tell if you didn't already know his religion. The NYT doesn't seem to know any difference either. Ya'll should be backing him in this.
And given ya'lls posting history on FR no claim is needed. Its a given. :-)
That means he must know nothing of politics and conservatism
- - - - - - -
I wouldn’t say he doesn’t know anything about politics and conservatism, he does, but the fact that he is LDS makes me question his ability to judge things properly.
The LDS Jesus doesn’t exist.
NO ONE! Beck all too frequently opens his mouth before engaging his brain. I understand what he is trying to say - he's speaking of the “progressives” that have co-opted the term for their political aims (think Nancy Pelosi) - the problem is for the nominal Catholic who has never studied the faith, his sweeping statements wipe out a huge chunk of AUTHENTIC Catholic teaching on social justice.

III. HUMAN SOLIDARITY
1939 The principle of solidarity, also articulated in terms of friendship or social charity, is a direct demand of human and Christian brotherhood.
An error, today abundantly widespread, is disregard for the law of human solidarity and charity, dictated and imposed both by our common origin and by the equality in rational nature of all men, whatever nation they belong to. This law is sealed by the sacrifice of redemption offered by Jesus Christ on the altar of the Cross to his heavenly Father, on behalf of sinful humanity.
1940 Solidarity is manifested in the first place by the distribution of goods and remuneration for work. It also presupposes the effort for a more just social order where tensions are better able to be reduced and conflicts more readily settled by negotiation.
1941 Socio-economic problems can be resolved only with the help of all the forms of solidarity: solidarity of the poor among themselves, between rich and poor, of workers among themselves, between employers and employees in a business, solidarity among nations and peoples. International solidarity is a requirement of the moral order; world peace depends in part upon this.
1942 The virtue of solidarity goes beyond material goods. In spreading the spiritual goods of the faith, the Church has promoted, and often opened new paths for, the development of temporal goods as well. And so throughout the centuries has the Lords saying been verified: Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well:
For two thousand years this sentiment has lived and endured in the soul of the Church, impelling souls then and now to the heroic charity of monastic farmers, liberators of slaves, healers of the sick, and messengers of faith, civilization, and science to all generations and all peoples for the sake of creating the social conditions capable of offering to everyone possible a life worthy of man and of a Christian.
IN BRIEF
1943 Society ensures social justice by providing the conditions that allow associations and individuals to obtain their due.
1944 Respect for the human person considers the other another self. It presupposes respect for the fundamental rights that flow from the dignity intrinsic of the person.
1945 The equality of men concerns their dignity as persons and the rights that flow from it.
1946 The differences among persons belong to Gods plan, who wills that we should need one another. These differences should encourage charity.
1947 The equal dignity of human persons requires the effort to reduce excessive social and economic inequalities. It gives urgency to the elimination of sinful inequalities.
1948 Solidarity is an eminently Christian virtue. It practices the sharing of spiritual goods even more than material ones.
Not to mention at least a dozen Encyclicals that address (gasp) “social justice”
Beck makes a living out seeing a boogey man under ever rock and tree and fueling panic, this is just the latest example of his superficial “reporting” which is why I turned off the TV several years ago. I don't need a talking head to tell me what to believe
