Salvation by Grace is a gift, it does not require ‘living a certain way’? We DO NOTHING? What a helpless view. You think it’s all on auto pilot? So you are free to do whatever you want and still obtain salvation with no need for repentance? Why did St. John tell people to repent? Was he wrong in doing so?

Why are we told to repent if we have nothing to do with it? Why are we told to fast if it’s not up to us? Why are we told to love one another if it makes no difference?

“...If you look at the accounts you will see that they ‘saw’ them under a cloth, hefted them without actually seeing them, and ‘saw’ them with their ‘spiritual eyes’ not physical eyes....”

And then moved them to SLC without ever showing them to anyone...

What a load of sh!t.

What does it mean to believe? How do you believe? Why did Jesus teach us the Lords prayer?

The “Caractors” are the only tangible evidence in existence related to Smith’s story.

No gold plates, no brass plates, no peep stones, no Urim and Thummim... only these “Caractors,” not a single one of which is in the purported languages.

I read somewhere that if Joey Smith did have gold ENGRAVED plates that he should have just done a rubbing...

They have to believe and live a certain way to receive that gift.

This is the BOTTOM LINE of what Christianity IS NOT.

There is not one single thing you can do to earn the gift of salvation.

That's what being born again in the spirit is all about - admitting to God that you are a hopeless sinner and a hopeless failure (just like every other single person who ever walked the earth except Jeus) and you give up.

If you then turn your self over into His hands, you will receive the Holy Spirit of God (born of the spirit, get it?) and He will never leave you.

***The so called “gold plates” went to Utah ???***

I believe it was Gladen Bishop, mormon leader of the Gladenites, who claimed to be in posession of the gold plates (and the true leader of the LDS) after Smith got shot.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gladden_Bishop

Bishop said was one of the Three Nephites from the Book of Mormon—had visited him and delivered seven items, the first six of which had once been in the possession of Smith.[9] The seven items Bishop claimed to be in possession of were:

the golden plates from which Smith translated the Book of Mormon;
the Urim and Thummim, which assisted Smith in translation;
the breastplate of Moroni;
the Liahona, an artifact from the Book of Mormon;
the sword of Laban;
a small silver “Crown of Israel” representing the Aaronic priesthood; and
a larger gold “Crown of Glory” representing the Melchizedek priesthood.

Bishop also claimed to have in his possession the first 116 pages of English manuscript of the Book of Mormon which had been translated by Joseph Smith but lost by Marin Harris.

Bishop travelled to Salt Lake City with the intention of meeting with Brigham Young and giving the seven sacred objects he claimed to hold to the LDS Church. He lived there quietly for several months and died there in an outbreak of scarlet fever in late November 1864.

On another web page, which has been removed, it was stated that B Young told Gladen Bishop to leave SLC while he still could. It seems two prophets are one too many for Young who didn’t care for competition. See what he did to the Morristies.

‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.’ - Matthew 15:8

***

The Lord told Joseph Smith....

JS-H 1: 19
19 I was answered that I must join none of them,

for they were all wrong;

and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight;

that those professors were all corrupt; that:

“they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me,

they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a form of godliness,

but they deny the power thereof.”

Isa. 29: 13 (13-24)
13 ¶ Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:

Matt. 15: 8 (7-9)
8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.

2 Ne. 27: 25
25 Forasmuch as this people draw near unto me with their mouth, and with their lips do honor me, but have removed their hearts far from me, and their fear towards me is taught by the precepts of men—

2 Ne. 28: 31.
31 Cursed is he that putteth his trust in man, or maketh flesh his arm, or shall hearken unto the precepts of men, save their precepts shall be given by the power of the Holy Ghost.

— — - - -
Actually, the story is even BETTER than that. Moroni (the angel) came and took them away (back to the Hill Cumorah, IIRC) without ever showing them to anyone.

And SLC won’t let anyone do an archaeological dig at Cumorah either (they own it now).

There is no such thing as the Christian Bible just shows more ignorance and distortions being spread by the precepts of men!

The Holy Bible is a record of the Saints http://scriptures.lds.org/en/tg/s/14

This is the Records of Judah and The Records of Joseph!

In the last days all the house of Israel shall be gathered to their own lands—The Lord will give them a new heart and a new spirit—They shall have his gospel law.

Israel shall inherit the land in the resurrection—The stick of Judah (Bible) and the stick of Joseph (Book of Mormon) become one in the Lord’s hand—Israel shall be gathered and cleansed—The Messiah shall reign over them—They shall receive the everlasting gospel covenant.

Ezekiel 37

15 ¶ The word of the Lord came again unto me, saying,

16 Moreover, thou son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it, For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions: then take another stick, and write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel his companions:

17 And join them one to another into one stick; and they shall become one in thine hand.

18 ¶ And when the children of thy people shall speak unto thee, saying, Wilt thou not shew us what thou meanest by these?

19 Say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel his fellows, and will put them with him, even with the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, and they shall be one in mine hand.

20 ¶ And the sticks whereon thou writest shall be in thine hand before their eyes.

21 And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I will take the children of Israel from among the heathen, whither they be gone, and will gather them on every side, and bring them into their own land:

22 And I will make them one nation in the land upon the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king to them all: and they shall be no more two nations, neither shall they be divided into two kingdoms any more at all:

23 Neither shall they defile themselves any more with their idols, nor with their detestable things, nor with any of their transgressions: but I will save them out of all their dwellingplaces, wherein they have sinned, and will cleanse them: so shall they be my people, and I will be their God.

24 And David my servant shall be king over them; and they all shall have one shepherd: they shall also walk in my judgments, and observe my statutes, and do them.

25 And they shall dwell in the land that I have given unto Jacob my servant, wherein your fathers have dwelt; and they shall dwell therein, even they, and their children, and their children’s children for ever: and my servant David shall be their prince for ever.

26 Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them: and I will place them, and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in the midst of them for evermore.
27 My tabernacle also shall be wit
h them: yea, I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

28 And the heathen shall know that I the Lord do sanctify Israel, when my sanctuary shall be in the midst of them for evermore.
