WASHINGTON A group representing Catholic hospitals Saturday rallied behind President Barack Obama's health care bill ahead of a House vote in which pro-life lawmakers could play a decisive role.
The chief executive of the Catholic Health Association, Carol Keehan, wrote on the group's Web site that although the legislation isn't perfect, it represents a "major first step" toward covering all Americans and would make "great improvements" for millions of people.
The more than 600 Catholic hospitals across the country do not provide abortions as a matter of conscience.
The association's support widens a split among abortion foes on whether the bill goes far enough to prevent taxpayer funding for the procedure. House Democratic leaders are trying to turn that debate to their advantage as they press for a vote on Obama's bill as early as this coming week. Winning over even a handful of anti-abortion Democrats could help Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., find a clear path to the 216 votes she needs for passage.

Useful idiots like the ones the Nazis used.
Yes. Watch how many of them go belly up when reimbursement dries up. Idiots is correct.
“A group representing Catholic hospitals”
needs to lose its clients
Sad that even the religious can’t be trusted to walk the straight and narrow. They are willing to sacrifice the unborn, the old and the infirm all for a buck.
They will likely have to if this is signed into law.
Oh, reimbursement won’t dry up
But it will be dependent on their complying with all federal mandates
including abortion
death counseling
denial of care as per govt decree
other “cost controls”
etc
The Catholic Health Association represents the Catholic hospitals about the same as the Westboro Baptist Church represents Baptists.
Open Letter to Congressman [Baron] Hill
From GOP Candidate for Hills seat, Travis Hankins.
Congressman Hill,
My name is Travis Hankins and I am seeking the GOP nomination to replace you this November. I am writing to humbly ask you not to vote for this Health care bill. You believe government should have a bigger role in healthcare than it already does. I disagree strongly, but I respect your political position. You believe all individuals should be mandated to acquire health insurance. I disagree, but I can respect that position. Yet, in voting for this bill you would agree that tax-payers should be forced to pay for abortions. With that Sir, I cannot respect you or your position.
Without the Stupak language protecting the rights of the unborn, a vote for this bill would cross a line. A line would be crossed in civility and morality.
Millions of us across party lines are Pro-Life Americans. We believe that life begins at conception, that unborn life is innocent and must be protected from abortion. Since Roe, Pro-Life Americans have respectfully disagreed with the left’s attempts to promote Abortion on demand. We have stood our ground, educating the public on the damage abortion has done to our society.
Now you want tax-payer funded abortion? No, Sir. This is too far. It is immoral to force Pro-Life Americans to pay their hard earned tax-dollars to fund the ending of life of innocent unborn children.
Health care is a political issue but abortion is not. Abortion is about Life, faith, and morality.
November 7th 2009, you voted for the original Stupak Amendment. This means you know that the amendment is necessary to stop tax-payer funded abortions! Now that Speaker Pelosi has thrown out the Stupak Amendment you must fight to get the amendment back and protect innocent Life. Beyond the immorality of forcing Pro-Life Americans to fund abortions, you know that when the Government subsidizes something you get more of it. This bill, without the Stupak Amendment, will lead to more abortions in America. You cannot in good conscious, support or vote for this bill and claim you represent the family values and fiscal principles of the people in the 9th District.
Please Sir, do not vote for a bill that leads to tax-payer funded abortions.
Respectfully for now,
Travis Hankins

Our local Catholic run hospital is known as “Sisters of Commerce” and “No Hope.”
Oh, it will dry up and it will be selective. Certain hospitals will be allowed to survive and others won’t. Catholic hospitals that compete with non denominational ones will go. I worked in health care finance for 13 years in a Catholic chain of hospitals. Just watch, it happen if this goes through.
This is OLDDDDDDD News and posted on Sat morning.
Its a phony Obama astroturf group.

For decades the Catholic hierarchy has sat by while the Left infiltrated their church. Now the chickens are coming home to roost.
I remember seeing that... thank you for your service.
This is how pervasive government involvement in healthcare markets alters opinions and positions......first, the government mandates that all health care facilities provide care to whomever presents regardless of ability to pay, which is obviously a loser forthe facility and an unfunded mandate that affects their ability to function in any capacity whatsoever...then the government comes along again to promise perhaps some crumbs of reimbursement for the previously unfunded
mandate which the health care facility sees as a marginally better situation. For some facilities it might be the difference between staying open orhaving to close.
The problem is that the government forc es people to negotiate off of an artificial platform, that exists solely due to government involvementand malfeasance to begin with. Do I think that the CHA would rather NOT support this atrocity? Sure....but the current system is unsustainable, so to them the current plan might just save them some time even though in the long run it will doom them just the same.
All I’m saying is you have to look at from what point of reference these organizations have been forced to negotiate from. Standing up for principles from an organizational standpoint is different from individuals....some of these hospitals are just trying to stay alive, IMO because if they close more people will be harmed than helped.
There’s a reason the abbreviation for association is ass ...
This isnt a group of catholics, it is one outlaw dyke nun trying to speak for people she does not represent.
Here’s what I was referring to on your CMA thread. Is this a legitimate group? Are they aunthenticly Catholic? I think I’ll try to do a little digging.
Catholic Hospitals Support Obamacare???
Doesn’t suprise me. The Catholic Church also supports Amnesty for Illegals.
