It must bepointed out that people in the ancient world counted differently than we do. When marking time or steps, ancient people counted the one on whcih their were standing as #1. Here’s an example:

Suppose you played Monopoly with Julius Caesar and he had his chariot on Free Parking. He throws a 10 and you smile because you claim he just landed on Go to Jail. He says no, I’ve landed on Marvin Gardens. You say no- Kentucky Ave is 1, the railroad is 5 and Go to Jail is 10. Julius Caesar says that you’re being ridiculous. Free Parking is 1, Kentuck is 2, the railroad is 6 and Marvin Gardens is 10.

Jesus died and rose in three days. Friday is 1, Saturday is 2 and Sunday is 3.

Or maybe, just maybe, scripture means what it says, and “on the third day” refers to the third day after the crucifixion, as in “Friday, Saturday, Sunday.”

Look, my mind is wide open on the matter. I find it both interesting and enlightening to put aside what I’ve been told and read scripture anew, looking at what it actually says rather than what other people say it says. It’s dangerous to cling to tradition over truth as the Pharisees did.

“. . . it is the third day since all of this took place,” Cleopas and his friend told Jesus on Sunday (Luke 24:21).

I can’t find any justification at all in scripture for a Friday crucifixion, other than that the following day was a Sabbath.

“”Now it was the Day of Preparation, and the next day was to be a special Sabbath.” (John 19:31)

Since we know it was the Passover Sabbath (see Lev. 23:7), it could have fallen on any day of the week. However, the women didn’t go to the tomb until Sunday morning, so we know they were apparently kept away by Sabbath restrictions between the time of burial and sunrise Sunday. A Thursday crucifixion, Friday Passover sabbath, Saturday weekly sabbath, and Sunday resurrection explains everything.

I’ve been at this for six decades, plan to keep studying till the Lord calls me home. Then I hope for a first-hand account of how it all went down. Won’t that be truly awesome?

Jesus died and rose in three days; the Fifth Day of the week night and day is 1; the Sixth Day of the week night and day is 2; the Sabbath (Seventh Day of the week) night and day is 3 = “the very first day REMOVE LEAVEN”; “the first day seven days EAT unleavened bread”; “the day after the Sabbath wave FIRST SHEAF” = Abib 14, 15, 16.

I seem to recall the concept of zero on the number line was first advocated by the Hebrew scholars in association with the tradition or Kabbalah in their numerology. I concur with chuckles’ post regarding the feasts as providing a check on the timeline.
