FAITH UNDER FIRE Banished! City forbids Bible studies in homes 'This letter will serve as a 10-day written notice to quit such use' Posted: March 13, 2010 12:20 am Eastern

By Bob Unruh © 2010 WorldNetDaily

The city of Gilbert, Ariz., has ordered a group of seven adults to stop gathering for Bible studies in a private home because such meetings are forbidden by the city's zoning codes.

The issue was brought to a head when city officials wrote a letter to a pastor and his wife informing them they had 10 days to quit having the meetings in their private home.

The ban, however, prompted a response from the Alliance Defense Fund, which filed an appeal with the city as the first step in its campaign to overturn a provision it describes as illegal.

Won’t happen, except maybe in Austin and Houston. Why? Because our council members are likely to be participants of the Bible studies.

That, and outside of the big cities, we don’t take too kindly to bureaucrats telling us what to do in our own homes!

Are they next going to ban saying Grace before a meal in homes?

This has gone too far.

Well, I’m surprised no one has yet attacked the messenger (WND) or state “if you haven’t done anything wrong, you have nothing to hide”.

I’m surprised no one is saying “So what if you have your home bible studies banned, this is still America and you’re still free to choose to study the works of Marx or the works of Obama. This is America you’re free to drink beer and watch sports! You’re still free. Practice religion in your home in private. That’s freedom.”

The pastor should just tell them that they aren’t having Bible meetings - they are weekly poker games for the men and bridge club for the ladies. Set up the card tables just in case the SWAT team breaks down the doors.

I live in Texas and this happens every single day. I can’t imagine anyone trying to stop it.

[you can say that again!] That's because TX has a First Amendment, and to deal with those who object to the 1st, they have a Second Amendment.

Yet, there is a 29 THOUSAND SQUARE FOOT Mosque being built in my town to serve approximately 30 Muslim families.

They purchased the property without disclosing its future use.

It is right next door to a popular Evangelical Church. The church people are really upset, and had Brigit Gabriel there the other night as a Guest Speaker.

It is a little off the subject, but just thought I would throw it out there for discussion.

If they came to my property and tried to remove my sign, they’d leave with one hell of a hurt. If they tried to remove a sign I placed on a corner with the owner’s permission, I’d sue. It’s time we took back our liberties.

Exactly. I live west of Houston in a very large suburb and we have a Church practically every 3 miles. Some new ones meet at the High School. It would never happen here.

Not only do people have Bible studies in their home but what about Bunco, I know many people that do that every single week. Is that allowed in Arizona?

Dear City of Gilbert administrators:

Please provide the names and addresses of all the city “officials” who are behind this ridiculous abuse of power. I want to make sure the spelling is right so that when they come knocking on heaven’s door I can issue them a letter denying entrance.

I will be glad to send the list of names down, down, down, to the burning ring of fire.

Thank you.

Signed,

Saint Peter

It is not the signs ON your property they remove, but the signs on public property pointing the way to your property.

I LOVE Garage sales, BTW.

I think they should leave the signs ALONE!

Signs are another way of expressing one’s First Amentment Rights, IMNSHO!

I'd let the wife conduct the garage sale, then place a sign on a corner and wait...

You can fill in the blanks...

How far west? From North Dallas, it looks to us like Houston itself has seriously gone to the donks. Is that wrong, or have the Christians and conservatives fled to the burbs?

I mean, Austin has always been to the left, although even their donks are to the right of most country club republicans and RINOs on the East and West Coasts. So Austin being donk is expected. But what’s happened to Houston, for example the election of their new ultra-lib mayor, looks scary. Is this media distortion, or have libs taken over there?
