From the original article:
A spokesman for the Gloucestershire Gay and Lesbian Community group said Rev Frank Wainwright's words were ''poorly chosen'' but accepted his apology. He said: ''I can understand why he has said it as there are canonic references.
''However, we are living in a different world and one would hope that anyone who is in a loving relationship would be accepted.
''In this country, it is legal for people of the same sex to enter into a civil partnership and that is not necessarily a religious relationship.
''But we appreciate he has apologised for the remark and we would not want to stir anything up.''

Is God homophobic? If you believe that the Scriptures are God-breathed, then God must be a homophobe. He was the one that condemned all forms of homosexuality. God's Word does not change with the times. If what you speak is what God speaks, then you should never apologize. Is this deacon more concerned about offending people or offending God?

Dont ever apologize for the truth. Apologize for being a bore. Surely they've excavated a cuneiform tablet with the idiotic Adam and Steve line.

If parishioners feel that way, they are in the wrong church.

The government (or anyone else) has no right to dictate Church teaching or orthodoxy.

...during a sermon on marriage, made the remark in a humorous aside that Marriage is between Adam and Eve - not Adam and Steve. For this the Deacon has been accused of homophobia after five complaints by members of the congregation.Had I been the one that took the "complaints", my response would have been: "The ELCA is just down the street a bit; they currently have quite a few seats available."

Courage is desperately needed; not kowtowing to perversion or apologizing for telling the truth. People who kowtow, apologize, placate or otherwise act like neutered frightened rabbits are part of the problem.

Can anyone identify any society which has endured for 50 years or more while regarding a male-male or female-female union as the full equivalent of a male-female marriage? Refusal to accept something that has never been generally accepted by anyone anywhere is not bigotry.
