As for the grafted in branch, please look at Paul's discussion of the olive tree in Romans 11. Paul says some of the original branches will be removed for the wild olive branches to be grafted in.

In a very limited sense, Christianity a Jewish sect. However, it is more than that, and to reduce it to just that sentiment is miss the reason why Christianity exists.
