Ecumenic threads are closed to antagonism.
To antagonize is to incur or to provoke hostility in others.
Unlike the caucus threads, the article and reply posts of an ecumenic thread can discuss more than one belief, but antagonism is not tolerable.
More leeway is granted to what is acceptable in the text of the article than to the reply posts. For example, the term gross error in an article will not prevent an ecumenical discussion, but a poster should not use that term in his reply because it is antagonistic. As another example, the article might be a passage from the Bible which would be antagonistic to Jews. The passage should be considered historical fact and a legitimate subject for an ecumenic discussion. The reply posts however must not be antagonistic.
Contrasting of beliefs or even criticisms can be made without provoking hostilities. But when in doubt, only post what you are for and not what you are against. Or ask questions.
Ecumenical threads will be moderated on a where theres smoke, theres fire basis. When hostility has broken out on an ecumenic thread, Ill be looking for the source.
Therefore anti posters must not try to finesse the guidelines by asking loaded questions, using inflammatory taglines, gratuitous quote mining or trying to slip in an anti or ex article under the color of the ecumenic tag.
Posters who try to tear down others beliefs or use subterfuge to accomplish the same goal are the disrupters on ecumenic threads and will be booted from the thread and/or suspended.
So in other words, you just want people to post who agree with you.
It is sad today people forgot how to have an exchange of ideas with out being hostile.
Stay off this thread. Thank you.
“The Heavens are not closed” ~ such comforting words! Thanks for posting this wonderful reminder of the amazing truths we learned through the First Vision.
Uh... are we allowed to make any comments about the legal and prior career background of the primary person mentioned in this post or is that considered hostile? I would think it would be valid, because its like buying a car.... you should know its full history before buying it. People do have a right to know more than just the stuff that sounds nice.

Yes you are right that is why there are also OPEN thread!
How can this thread be “LDS Ecumenical” when scripture from the Christian Bible is the main text used in the article ???
And also quoted throughout ???
I do not think that the writings of Christianity should be used in an attempt to validate Mormonism’s Joseph Smith, and then members of Christianity shut out from free expression...
Tennessee Nana,
As a Mormon, I’m always amazed at being called a non-Christian, since the name of the Mormon Church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and we believe in the atoning sacrifice and resurrection of Jesus Christ and in His status as God and Savior of mankind.
What is not Christian about that? We certainly regard other faiths who believe in Christ as Christian, even though they do not believe in the same particulars as we do.

Seems as though you are desirous of converting us to
Mormonism. If I want to learn about various religions, I would not be reading Free Republic. I didn’t realize I was in an ecumenical thread. Will have to look for the thread I want to read.
I do believe the Greatest Commandment; Matt. 22:29-40.
One of your own prophets (Hinkley) has already said that mormons don’t believe in the same Christ as Christianity.
That’s what’s “not Christian” about it.
