The extremely critical thing here is that this survey probably is including MUSLIM MOSQUES as a ‘church’. ERGO, the rise in the NE states.....

This map shows you where evangelical Christianity is growing in the U.S. (Pink indicates growth. Blue indicates decline).

OK, but what is "evangelical"?

I just finished reading D. G. Hart's Deconstructing Evangelicalism: Conservative Protestantism in the age of Billy Graham. After having written a history of 20th century American evangelicalism, he concluded that the category itself is pretty much useless.

This might actually be the start of what Barna Research said would happen over the next several years. After surveying the church George Barna wrote a book called “revolution”. In this book he points out that in the year 2000 70% of Christians in the U.S. attended a local church, the rest expressed there faith through other means(tv ministries, home churches, etc). If the surveys and trends play out the way he believes they will then by the year 2025 only 30-35% of Christians will attend a local church with the majority expressing there faith through those other means (tv, home churches, etc.)

I would suggest reading the book “revolution” to understand how Barna comes to these conclusions and why he believes this will happen.
