So I have a question about terminology.
Some of our Catholic FRiends get upset when we Prods use the term Roman Catholic, insisting that the term is derogatory, insulting, etc.
What I would like to discuss is why do Catholics complain about the term Roman Catholic, when the term is in such wide use inside of the Catholic church?
Thoughts?
Sadly, that is (has been) correct. It’s hard to replace priests, I guess. Gotta hang on to ‘em as best they can.
I disagree...that seems to always be the point with the Catholic religion. The priests, bishops, popes...are all supposed to be taking Christ's place on earth. They are put upon pedestals as representatives of "the One, True, Holy Church against which the gates of hell will not prevail" - if memory serves me. They are supposed to be superior to any other Christian minister and, in fact, we hear over and over how all those "Protestants" are inferior to the "true" ministers of The Church. So when this Only, Real, True above-the-heathens Church lets her slip show...people notice.
Sounds to me like you have a severe case of Croiser envy.
When Roman Catholic priests sin, they are shuffled off to another unsuspecting parish where the abuse continues for decades. |
AND it all gets swept under the rug. The REAL figures are unknown, and will probably remain unknown.
I try to stick with organic raisin bran, personally. Croisers can be a bit too greasy. :o)
I have a hunch you're right. Now if I was the Pope... :O)
The denial of the Eucharist and the denial of the Episcopal authority are two characteristic heresies of Protestantism as well, so I don’t think so.
I'm sceptical, too, but I'm going to get Jenkins' book and check it out myself. And post what I find.
What you describe is the essence of Catholicism.
This is the practice that led the Roman church to embrace the same ancient idolatry that got Israel into trouble constantly, simply renaming Ashta as Mary. - We see it presently in Haiti where the local Voodoo was absorbed into the church.
.
lolol
We know our Pastors are sinners just like us and they do not have "special" access to the throne of God.They, like the people they pastor, are sinners in need of a Savior..
Is there sexual abuse in Protestant churches?? I would expect to see the same sin in the church we see outside. The difference is that we out it..we do not spend millions of donated dollars to hide it and cover it up and keep allowing access to kids for our names sake..
The shame of Catholicism starts at the top and drips down.. The Vatican has been aware of this issue and worked to cover it up..without thought for the well being of all those altar boys that they converted to future predators or homosexual men
The real difference seems to be in the area of accountability.
With protestants, there is always clear action taken when the offense is brought into the light, while for the RC, it is the usual deeply cloaked secret shuffle.
If rejection of those two Nicolaitan Blasphemies are heresy, then the Lord must love heresy.
What is the main difference between Eastern Orthodox Church and the RC Church other than priest can marry and they have a different leader?
I am going to ping NYer on this because she would give you a much more accurate and thorough answer than I could. I am a Latin Rite Catholic, which is the biggest rite in the Church.
Basically when the great schism took place between the eastern and western Church, the eastern churches (Eastern Orthodox, Russian Orthodox etc.) broke from western Church. The Orthodox do not recognize the primacy of the Western Patriarch (Bishop of Rome/Pope by other names) But for each of the Orthodox Churches there were believers who either did not break or later came back to communion with the Bishop of Rome (the Pope) so many of the rites of the Catholic Church resemble in practice the Orthodox churches. One example is the Eastern Orthodox and the Eastern Rite Catholics. So basically for every Orthodox Church there is an equivalent Catholic rite.
NYer will correct and add to what I posted I am sure.
Oh I didn’t really answer your question. Their liturgy is somewhat different. They celebrate The Divine Liturgy instead of The Mass, although they do essentially the same thing. Orthodox priests do marry as do most rites within the Catholic Church. I believe (although I might be wrong) it is only Latin Rite Catholic priests who practice the discipline of celibacy and don’t marry, although there are even many married Latin Rite priests who have converted from Lutheran and Anglican Churches.
How about the priests who run orphanages in Ireland? I guess they don’t count...
In Taiwan many Taxi drivers have a Mary-like figurine on their dashboards that is actually an Asian mystical godess. It’s “interesting” to them (to us too) to watch Catholics get in these taxis and cross themselves, not knowing the difference!
I’m sure that form the Lord’s point of view, there isn’t any difference.
Correct. No difference. Same source.
