To: Salvation

Serving members of the armed forces used to be “dispensed” from the Friday abstinence from meat. My father thought that was silly, since they always had fish available on Fridays on the carrier or in the base mess, but obviously i some situations, such as infantry combat, it would have made a difference.

If St. Patrick’s Day falls on a Friday — our priest will give the Seniors’ Group a dispensation so that can have the corned beef and cabbage and potatoes meal.
