I sense a smattering of guilt in your post. I'm not trying to mind read or anything, but is it possible you joined the mormon church because they are nice people and you felt bad for your prior beliefs and actions?
It's not uncommon for folks to start identifying with those whom they feel they've maligned and to then join them.
You can choose to answer or not, it's just an observation.
