A helpful diagnostic: the Nicene Council is to heretical sects as garlic is to vampires.

Oh SNAP!

This is why we are bombarded with attacks against us - simply because we “allow” it.Actually it is because God allows it. He is sovereign, and nothing occurs that he has not pre-ordained.

Yes, I agree. I also agree that He has called me to bring to light the inaccuracies depicted in Mormonism.

He did this by selecting a home of birth for me that had been caught in the web of the deceit of Satan through Mormonism for 170 years. God has made His work very clear to me, and has set my feet on a path that I have no power to resist.

Apparantly with just his name, they tracked his mother down and asked her to have him quit.

If he were baptized mormon, his name and genealogy will be available to mormons probably "for eternity". ;)

His mother's name would be readily available.

Has practically every Mormon you've ever been around been terrible, judgmental people? I hope not. I've had similar experience in the same vein, although from a different side...

Very few Mormons in my area, so I have little experience with them (the few I've met were polite and never proselytized). Anecdotally, the worst types I've met, in the same vein as your anecdotes, are to a person some kind of Baptist. Backstabbing, judgmental, nasty people. Those experiences left me leery of Baptists and Evangelicals in general, which spills over into my personal relationships and business ones as well.

Sometimes I feel like I'm being unfair, but it sure is hard to break away from those experiences...magritte

I would think it gets back to the first mormo, joey smith and what he said about Christians...

17 It no sooner appeared than I found myself delivered from the enemy which held me bound. When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other—This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!
18 My object in going to inquire of the Lord was to know which of all the sects was right, that I might know which to join. No sooner, therefore, did I get possession of myself, so as to be able to speak, than I asked the Personages who stood above me in the light, which of all the sects was right (for at this time it had never entered into my heart that all were wrong)—and which I should join.
19 I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all wrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were all corrupt; that: “they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof.”
20 He again forbade me to join with any of them; and many other things did he say unto me, which I cannot write at this time. When I came to myself again, I found myself lying on my back, looking up into heaven. When the light had departed, I had no strength; but soon recovering in some degree, I went home. And as I leaned up to the fireplace, mother inquired what the matter was. I replied, “Never mind, all is well—I am well enough off.” I then said to my mother,
“I have learned for myself that Presbyterianism is not true.” (Joseph Smith Pearl of great Price (JS History 1:20)

Are Christians ignorant? Yes, as ignorant of the things of God as the brute beast” (Journal of Discourses, John Taylor [3rd Mormon President], 13:225).

Brigham Young stated this repeatedly: “When the light came to me I saw that all the so-called Christian world was grovelling in darkness” (Journal of Discourses 5:73);

“The Christian world, so-called, are heathens as to the knowledge of the salvation of God” (Journal of Discourses 8:171);

“With a regard to true theology, a more ignorant people never lived than the present so-called Christian world” (Journal of Discourses 8:199);

“And who is there that acknowledges [God’s] hand? ...You may wander east, west, north, and south, and you cannot find it in any church or government on the earth, except the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints” (Journal of Discourses, vol. 6, p.24);

“Should you ask why we differ from other Christians, as they are called, it is simply because they are not Christians as the New Testament defines Christianity” (Journal of Discourses 10:230).

Orson Pratt proclaimed: “Both Catholics and Protestants are nothing less than the ‘whore of Babylon’ whom the Lord denounces by the mouth of John the Revelator as having corrupted all the earth by their fornications and wickedness. Any person who shall be so corrupt as to receive a holy ordinance of the Gospel from the ministers of any of these apostate churches will be sent down to hell with them, unless they repent” (The Seer, p. 255).

Pratt also said: “This great apostasy commenced about the close of the first century of the Christian era, and it has been waxing worse and worse from then until now” (Journal of Discourses, vol.18, p.44)

“But as there has been no Christian Church on the earth for a great many centuries past, until the present century, the people have lost sight of the pattern that God has given according to which the Christian Church should be established, and they have denominated a great variety of people Christian Churches, because they profess to be ...But there has been a long apostasy, during which the nations have been cursed with apostate churches in great abundance” (Journal of Discourses, 18:172).

President George Q. Cannon said: “After the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was organized, there were only two churches upon the earth. They were known respectively as the Church of the Lamb of God and Babylon. The various organizations which are called churches throughout Christendom, though differing in their creeds and organizations, have one common origin. They all belong to Babylon” (Gospel Truth, p.324).

Matthew 24:23-24
For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect—if that were possible.

Matthew 7:15
“Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.

Matthew 24:10-11
10. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other,
11. and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people.

Mark 13:21-22
21. At that time if anyone says to you, `Look, here is the Christ!’ or, `Look, there he is!’ do not believe it.
22. For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform signs and miracles to deceive the elect—if that were possible.

Luke 6:26
Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for that is how their fathers treated the false prophets.

Acts 13:6-7
6. They traveled through the whole island until they came to Paphos. There they met a Jewish sorcerer and false prophet named Bar-Jesus,
7. who was an attendant of the proconsul, Sergius Paulus. The proconsul, an intelligent man, sent for Barnabas and Saul because he wanted to hear the word of God.

2 Corinthians 11:12-14
12. And I will keep on doing what I am doing in order to cut the ground from under those who want an opportunity to be considered equal with us in the things they boast about.
13. For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ.
14. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.

2 Corinthians 11:26
I have been constantly on the move. I have been in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my own countrymen, in danger from Gentiles; in danger in the city, in danger in the country, in danger at sea; and in danger from false brothers.

Galatians 2:4
[This matter arose] because some false brothers had infiltrated our ranks to spy on the freedom we have in Christ Jesus and to make us slaves.

2 Peter 2:1
But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves.

1 John 4:1
Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

many Mormons’ do have in their heads the correct notion of Christ’s divinity,death, and resurrection.

- - - - - - -
Having been Mormon, I can tell you this is patently false. They may use the same words but they have different meanings.

Well, I was raised in a heavily mormon community, and "Backstabbing, judgmental, nasty people" certainly describes my experiences, even before I left the mormon church. The treatment I received AFTER that, because mormons take it personally if you leave their church, was even worse.

As you say it's hard to break away from those experiences.

Maybe you should post a thread or two about the doctrinal fallacies of the Baptists and Evangelicals...or..wait...doctrine wasn't what you were referring to, was it?

Well, shared pain is shared experience in a way.
If you are “ex-Christian” may I ask how do you define your belief system now?

I guess Jews never judged other folks like the Baptists and Evangelicals do?...

We are taught only to judge actions, not people...leave that part to G-d...Maimonides said that a person may achieve one merit that could outweigh a lifetime of mistakes, (but that's not for us to determine)...that's not to say that there aren't judgmental Jews, but it goes against teaching...

Religion-wise (is that a word?), Judaism has a much different outlook on other religions...even Christianity, which is obviously considered a false religion, is not supposed to be judged because it's considered merely a wrong direction, and it is hoped that all Christians will "come back" someday...Since we don't believe in such things as original sin, "only one path to heaven", or even hell, there's no pressing need to convert people...we try to lead by example and help where we can...take care!...magritte
