Dear FRiends,
I am looking for recommendations for a good online commentary on the Gospel of Luke.
Luke rocks! My favorite Apostle!
You can quote me.
Luke wasn’t an Apostle. Nor was Mark.
How about Matthew?
thank you
Here is a link to an extensive collection of online commentaries on the book of Luke. http://preceptaustin.org/luke_commentaries.htm
The most prolific scholar on the book of Luke today is probably Darrell Bock. His two volume commentary on Luke is the gold standard. It is part of the Baker Exegetical Commentary series.
There is so much on line, I would not use 1 commentary ...
Most of the modern commentaries are not on line yet although Blue letter bible, i believe, has some modern ones there.. I always fall back on Gill and Henry myself
Yep, Matthew was one of the twelve. As was John, the final Gospel writer.
OK, good.
I like Matthew a lot.
On some research, I see Luke was a Saint and a follower/accolade of Paul. Being raised Catholic, it never occurred to me to question Luke’s relationship since we got so much of his Gospel.
Well, you can still quote me:
Luke Rocks!
And freedumb2003, I will quote you tomorrow :)
:)
Now I am scurrying off to research both Luke and Paul.
Wouldn’t it be interesting to make a movie based on the Gospel of Luke? To walk in his shoes as he makes his observations and learns from Paul, one “generation” from Christ?
Mel Gibson, are you lurking?
Do a search on Thomas L Constable and go into his Bible commentary site. He has great commentaries on all of the books of the Bible. I have used him a lot in the past to answer questions on confusing Bible passages.
studylight.org will link you to several good commentaries.
By accolade you mean ‘acolyte’.
sorry, just trying to save you from future discombobulation when folks sneer at ignorant rednecked conservatives.
it’s a dirty job but somebody’s got to do it.

Thanks — dang Spell Check!
Accolade means to receive praise *doh*.
Luke still rocks! Looking at it, it might be because he wrote his stuff when he was young(er) and brings a fresh and more youthful perspective to the meaning of the budding Christianity.
Quite an offset to the rather impatient Paul under whom he studied.
Ahhh...you want the LDS commentaries on Luke.
The Jehovahs Witnesses or Unitarian view.
Next time state your theological/church perspective, which
at this point may be NE(any).
