Funny, I find it rather odd that someone on a conservative, Bill of Rights oriented website would find missionaries exercising their First Amendment rights to be acosting someone.
And just what would that goal be? You're the one mind-reading now, bucko.
They’re certainly not physically accosting anyone. Everyone has the option to keep walking when someone on the street tries to get their attention, whether it’s a Mormon missionary, someone passing out flyers about a “store closing” sale, someone touting a political candidate, someone trying to interest you in signing a petition, etc. Same with people coming to your door. I have gotten any Mormon missionaries since a pair turned up at my parents’ house when I was about 15. But I’ve occasionally gotten JWs, people from a local fundamentalist Christian church, both Republican and Democratic candidate-touters, LaRouchians, and occasional random “issue” pushers (environmental, etc). I know how to end the visit in seconds by saying “No thanks, I’m not interested” and closing the door.
Well, I betcha you are all at about the 60-yard line. Do you visit the Religion Forum very often?
When I used the word ‘prick’ I also put in parenthesis what that word means, ‘little nettle’.
And that is what I am calling you on. It is rather odd that you immediately must think I have other motives other than calling into question your basic understanding of the First Amendment, even though I have not made any such statement on this thread.
You jumped into the middle of a conversation about such. Please try to keep up if you are going to do that.
Discuss the issues all you want, but do not make it personal.
Thanks, RM...there has been a shift change now, with mind-reading in the starring role.
It doesn’t matter. Introducing a word like that into an open Religion Forum thread which is likely to be heated is an invitation for return “fire.” Use the other words, i.e. little nettle.
Your post to me - Funny, I find it rather odd that someone on a conservative, Bill of Rights oriented website would find missionaries exercising their First Amendment rights to be acosting someone.
I misunderstood then when you said in your post to me accosting, that you were not actually referring to me.
Sorry about that.
No problemo.
Ah, okay.
As a matter of clarification, as an apostate mormon, I don’t view this as bashing. I’m married to a great woman who happens to be a mormon. I don’t post my comments to demean or ridicule, I do so to inform, to educate. If there is someone out there lurking on the thread, they can either take my experiences to heart or ignore them. It’s up to them.
I’ve tried my best to ensure that my posts to mormons and non-mormons alike aren’t inflammatory or anywhere near approaching a personal attack. (although most would agree that one’s religion is very personal) I will freely admit that I’ve lost my composure a couple of times and the RM has smacked my hands with the pointer.
If you read the posts, it’s more about bringing up the inconsistencies within the lds religion so that those who aren’t familiar with it can start to investigate on their own. Doctrinal, theological posts. Almost everything posted that starts a thread is directly from lds sources.
The fact that mormons, who denounced Christianity in the early 1800’s in all its forms now want to be called Christian should raise the eyebrows of folks who call themselves Christian.
These threads helped me and others on FR to make the break from mormonism. I was an lds apologist for awhile and I don’t recall one instance where any of the “antis” have ever said that the mormons aren’t good people. It’s about reading the posts to comprehend the message, not to find offense in the message.
As for muslims, well, they make it a point to come out and say they’re going to lop our heads off. So for me, it’s more a matter of prove me wrong first before I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt. In that regard, we totally agree.
But some venomous anti Mormon threads have been on Free Republic.
didnt try heard enough??
Like it was THEIR fault they didnt convert?
Weren’t you just on that CALVINISM thread defending PREDESTINATION???
My comment was in response to the first sentence/last para of #1. Of course I believe that if something is supposed to be, it will. It’s all part of God’s plan.
Have you been on threads that are full of nasty remarks BY mormons? I have, many!
Try reading some threads with the thought that posts about the arcane and unBiblical beliefs of mormonISM are not "nasty remarks about mormons" and bear in mind that mormons are demanding to be called Christian when their theology espouses multiple gods, Lucifer and Jesus are brothers, that one must pass the inspection of Joseph Smith to enter into Heaven and gain salvation.
In your opinion are Christians required to ignore the fallacies of religions that are unBiblical just because some consider it "not nice" to point out the fallacies?
Allowing oneself to miss those points because you know some really nice mormons would be unfortunate. They, as mormons, don't believe you will be saved unless you become a member of their church.
