It it pretty obvious (I thought) throughout Scripture and the history of atrocities done to those professing Christ that blessings or the lack of them have nothing to do with righteousness or the lack of it.

I'm sorry I assumed that such an obvious and simple passage would enlighten you.

Exactly.
Was St. Paul cursed? Were the Christian martyrs cursed, based on the fact that they suffered?
This is just another form of prosperity gospel.

Some people see the United States as peculiarly blessed, in large part because it was founded on Christian principles by Christian men and women back in the 1500s or so, and its charter was based on Christian principles as well.

Do you really not see the United States as particularly blessed? Do you not see any correlation between our Christian founding and our relative state of blessedness?

A larger question: Does God interact with *groups* of people, either blessing them or withholding His blessing from them?
