The Church of Scientology in Italy is reportedly beginning legal proceedings against the Daughters of St. Paul and author Maria Pia Gardini.
Gardini wrote the 2007 book, My Years in Scientology, and the 2009 book, The Courage to Speak Out Stories of Ex-Scientologists, both published by the Daughters of St. Paul.
Gardini returned to Catholicism after being a member of The Church of Scientology and its Sea Org elite. The books are part of a growing number being written by ex-members of The Church of Scientology cult.
We live in a free country and a publisher has the obligation to be as accurate and as steadfast as possible, because it is not a crime to report the facts when they exist and can be documented, said a spokesperson for The Daughters of St. Paul.
The Daughters of St. Paul were founded in 1915 by Blessed James Alberione. The order, which has more than 2,500 sisters around the world, uses modern means of communication to proclaim the Gospel. In addition to their publishing work, they operate bookstores around the world.
scientology is frightening...
I don’t understand why people are going for it...it seems quite odd to me...
Scientology is worse than a cult, its a billion dollar scam with front-men from Tom Cruise who use their power and influence to have Catholic women whom they marry abandon their Catholicism and convert to this stupidity. I feel sad for the women:
“But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven.
Because "it's different" and that makes it "cool" and "hip" (do they still use that terminology?) and part of the "in" crowd. Sadly, Aimee, people don't want to "waste their time" researching facts; that is why so many 'sheeples' voted for Obama. Were it not for what they 'see' on the news, more people would probably join Islam because "it's different". The herd mentality tends to prevail with many folk.
Peace to the Daughters.
Gardini is a former adherent of Scientology and member of its Sea Org elite, who run everything in Scientology and its front groups under the leadership of David Miscavige. She returned to full practice of Catholicism after leaving.Still more info at ClericalWhispers blogWhispers notes that the lawsuit, along with reports of forced abortions in Sea Org, puts Scientology and its leader David Miscavige at risk of building a greater enmity with Catholics around the world.
In September of 2009 a lawyer for the Church of Scientology in Italy sent a warning letter to Giardini and the publishing house, warning them that they were engaged in libelous attacks. The letter was also signed by the head of the Italian group.
In announcing the upcoming legal action, Paoline Publications was not specifically mentioned as it was in the September warning. However, they did state that the suit would name "whomever assisted her with activities that the Church considers detrimental to its image." Not only would this include the publisher but possibly the 14 ex-Scientologists who contributed to the second book.
funny that they call the Sea Org the “elite”. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. They are the servants of $cientology. They are in there to pay for the classes and such that they can’t afford, by doing menial crap.
I wonder if Daughter of ST Paul ever seen South Park episode
Just a thought

The purpose of the suit is to harass and discourage rather than to win.The point of the lawsuit is to force the target to spend money on legal fees to defend the suit, and by so doing either being forced into bankruptcy, or deciding to settle and not mention the subject of Scientology again. The law can be used very easily to harass, and enough harassment on somebody who is simply on the thin edge anyway, well knowing that he is not authorized, will generally be sufficient to cause his professional decease. If possible, of course, ruin him utterly.
Scientology is a cult! I had an older landlord who had been caught up in it, and even 10 years later, he’s still rather off.
Amen, Sister!!
I think, like the popular idea of Buddhism, folks perceive it as a way to be spiritual in a sophisticated way, that is, without the old Judeo-Christian baggage of guilt or shame for one's actions.
May the daughters not only prevail in court but recover every bit of court costs from the jerks in Scientology . . .
and may their book sales soar.
Please, Lord, hear this prayer.
Why do people still get attracted to Communism after its known record. People who are unsatisfied with their lives and with how the world seems will tend to want to grab onto something that promises hope and an ANSWER.
