Exurge, Calvinisti, et judica causam tuam [revisited]...

Exurge, Calvinisti, et judica causam tuam...

Arise (some older mss still read 'Swarm'), O Calvinists, and plead your cause. The doctrines of grace are mightily assailed by those who would proclaim with their father, “I will be like the Most High.” Set forth the biblical case for a sovereign God who is jealous for His glory. Disallow through disputation (and lampooning when needed) the damnable errors of those who have refashioned the great sola doctrines into a salvation-helper gospel that exalts the fallen will of man.

From every corner, in every thread exalt the right of God to do whatsoever He pleaseth. Be not dismayed by persistent anthropocentric rantings. Blessed are you when they revile you for the sake of the truth. Happy are ye when the Servetus card is played and the strawmen are paraded before you for He who is enthroned in heaven reigns.

– Pope Piel I [still on patrol]

Reviving the noble suggestion of Pope Piel I's Minister of Diplomacy, Orthodox Presbyterian [both still on patrol], this thread serves as a place for Calvinists to register for inclusion in the of the Great Reformed Ping List [Re]Reformed. The official GRPL[R] will be maintained by Alex Murphy. The thread also welcomes members of the GRPL[R] and the original GRPL to post favorite grace oriented historical quotes from those who have swarmed before us.

Application for inclusion in the GRPL[R] should be accompanied by a suitable historical quote.

==

"These two world views [Christian theist vs naturalist, impersonal matter or energy shaped by impersonal chance] stand as totals in complete antithesis to each other in content and also in their natural results--including sociological and governmental results, and specifically including law.
It is not that these two world views are different only in how they understand the nature of reality and existence. They also inevitably produce totally different results. The operative word here is inevitably. It is not just that they happen to produce different results, but it is absolutely inevitable that they will bring forth different results."
--Francis A. Schaeffer, A Christian Manifesto, page 2.

"It would be easy to show that at our present rate of progress the kingdoms of this world never could become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ. Indeed, many in the Church are giving up the idea of it except on the occasion of the advent of Christ, which, as it chimes in with our own idleness, is likely to be a popular doctrine. I myself believe that King Jesus will reign, and the idols be utterly abolished; but I expect the same power which turned the world upside down once will still continue to do it. The Holy Ghost will never suffer the imputation to rest upon His holy name that He was not able to convert the world."
--Charles Haddon Spurgeon

Someone asked me yesterday whether my intent was to replace the Great Reformed Ping List. My goal is not replacement - my goal is to revive it, to strengthen it, and to grow it.

The original GRPL list can be found on nobdysfool's home page. For now, to delineate the (reinvigorated) list from the original, I'm calling this the "Great Reformed Ping List, [Re]formed", although I'm not settled on the name. The new list will be kept on my homepage.

I've started by reviewing the original GRPL list, and pulling anyone who has been inactive on FR for at least three months. I'm assuming that these FReepers have actually left FR, and not just gone into full-time lurking mode. This post pings those names on the GRPL who are still active. You form the beginning of the GRPL[R] list. And additional names have already been added since yesterday's initial announcement.

List members will be pinged to articles regarding Reformed thought or interest. If you want to be added to the Great Reformed Ping List [Re]formed, please FReepmail me. If you were on the old GRPL and want your name removed from the Great Reformed Ping List [Re]formed, please FReepmail me. And if you were on the original GRPL and your name is missing from the GRPL[R], please FReepmail me.

The rules for inclusion on the new list are the same as requested for inclusion on the original:

The GRPL[R] (Great Reformed Ping List [Re]formed) was originally conceived by Orthodox Presbyterian and initiated by drstevej as a ping list for FReepers who affirm monergistic regeneration, regardless of their denominational background. This ping list is intended for the exclusive use of its members. Non-members, while free to ping any FReeper they desire, are asked not to use the GRPL[R] list. Anyone desiring further information on the GRPL[R] or desiring inclusion on the GRPL[R] ping list, or removal from the ping list, should send a PM to me (Alex Murphy), as I currently maintain the list.

Persons desiring inclusion on the GRPL[R] should indicate their agreement with the doctrine of monergistic regeneration (the doctrines of grace). Following the tradition of the original GRPL, application for inclusion should be accompanied by a suitable historical quote. Requests for membership will be reviewed and may involve some private correspondence before inclusion to the list. It is our intention to maintain the integrity of the list, and to not use it for the purpose of divisive or vain and pointless arguments. Our primary goal is to Glorify God, and to present His Truth in power and integrity.

Here's a pretty good poem that begins with the line

"Listen friends and mark my words in this moment and this hour God is jealous for his name for his name is jealous."

Its overlaid on the selah tune "draw me Lord"

Glad to hear that DrSteve and OP are still on patrol. They are sorely missed here, as are the great debates of yore. Nowdays the Religion forum is just like my cable TV...the same tired stuff on all three hundred channels.

Don't DrSteve and OP have fresh, squeaky-clean non-blacklisted IP addresses yet? It's been years. I promise I wouldn't ever tell a soul if they were to pop back up...

"just toss out a Calvinist quote! "

Caught me flat footed. I will have to look up a Martin Lloyd Jones book so I don't ruin it in a paraphrase.

"It is better to fail in a cause that will ultimately succeed than to succeed in a cause that will ultimately fail." -- Peter Marshall

""Without the interpretation of the universe by man to the glory of God the whole world would be meaningless" - Cornelius Van Til, "The Defense of The Faith" pg 43

And also by Van Til, especially for Brit Hume...

"Christians are in themselves no wiser than are other men. What they have they have by grace. They must be 'all things to all men.' But it is not kindness to tell patients that need strong medicine that nothing serious is wrong with them. Christians are bound to tell men the truth about themselves; that is the only way of bringing them to recognize the mercy, the compassion, of Christ. For if men are told the truth about themselves, and if they are warned against the false remedies that establish men in their wickedness, then, by the power of the Spirit of God, they will flee to the Christ through whom alone they must be saved."
