Oh, the white hankie thing is merely a short-hand, a symbol for a LOT of INSTITUTIONALIZED ritual and hoopla as well as a bit of fun tweaking at those overly obsessed with such rituals as seem to go with the personage of Mary and a lot of other personages in the INSTITUTION.

I'm too sick to keep up with all this, but it sounds like it's time for one last corny joke:

A couple of decades ago an elderly lady asked a priest, "Is it true that anything a Saint has touched is a 'third class relic'?"

The priest answered, correctly, "Yes, that's true. Anything a saint has touched is a relic of the third class."

"Well," said the dowager, triumphantly, "Mother Cabrini spanked me more than once!"
