"I have thrilling news to share with you below but first some seriously bad news: With 10% of our church family out of work due to the recession, our expenses in caring for our community in 2009 rose dramatically while our income stagnated. Still, with wise management, we've stayed close to our budget all year. Then... this last weekend the bottom dropped out.
"On the last weekend of 2009, our total offerings were less than half of what we normally receive - leaving us $900,000 in the red for the year, unless you help make up the difference today and tomorrow."

Sounds like a job for Dave Ramsey...
Seems like our parish priest should have the same problem, but I haven’t heard a peep from him.
I think it is good for a church to be challenged and asked to give more. We all get complacent in our giving.
See The purpose driven and emergent hijacking of Christianity
The wife and I attend Saddleback & are members of the church. Its a round trip of 250 miles every Saturday to attend the service.
Rick gives 90% of his income to the church, he has not taken a salary for the last 8 years.
Do you give 90% of your income to your church?
With unemployment running at about 20% in orange county the tithing has dropped off. I see that at the service I attend.
Rick drives a 1999 ford truck and has lived in the same house for the last twenty years.
When we lived in Newport Bech it was a twenty minutes or so drive.
We have attended churches locally but I didnt get the same insperational teaching as we get at Saddleback.
The work that Saddleback does locally and thur out the world is whywe choose to drive 250 miles to worship.
I invite anyone within driving distance to come worship with us at Saddleback, or watch a service online.
Saddleback members give so much to the local commuinity.
If someone needs a car donated cars are given at NO cost to them. Need food just ask the food panty.
Toy’s for kids for Christmas how about several 18 wheelers full.
Mrs McClure has a bit to say:
I’m glad that Rick was honest enough to tell us of the financial situation and give us a chance and challenge to give to the Lord. I challenge all of you to go on to the Saddleback website in Lake Forest California and look at all of the ministry’s that this church has. It truly reaches the entire world and it takes an enormous amount of money to run all of these programs.
After all if you don’t give away anything God wants you to give, you don’t own it. . . it owns you.
Pastor Rick did not kiss Obamas butt. He held a fair forum and he asked questions and let them answer each one.
gnip...
I don't have a problem with him, but we have a cadre of virulently anti-Warren folks here who pounce on every thread in which he is mentioned. I was kind of (good naturedly, of course) mocking them.
Is the Lord gonna, “Take him home” al la Oral Roberts if he doesn’t come up with the dough?
An adept defense.
