Oral Roberts Dies at 91

The Rev. Oral Roberts, the internationally known television evangelist and faith healer who founded Oral Roberts University, died Monday in Newport Beach, Calif. He was ­91.

According to a release, his son, Richard, and daughter, Roberta, were at his side. Funeral services are pending.

The often-controversial charismatic minister built Oral Roberts University, the now-closed City of Faith Medical and Research Center and the University Village Retirement Center in Tulsa.

My Dad’s Bro—A of G pastor—married to my mother’s sister, knew Oral Roberts and helped at a number of crusades.

You are simply off-the-wall wrong about Roberts.

I’m not saying everything Roberts did was saintly. I’m not at all happy with some of the junk related to the University and his life. However, he did tons of good by God’s Grace and God is his judge and paymaster.

I don't have to assume anything since I personally know the people involved and they came to personally pray for the girl, No, they were not on TV or radio, they were at the church and my supervisor’s house.

And they DID promise him they could heal the girl but they couldn't.

Oral Roberts was a false prophet, a charlatan, a fake and a fraud.

His “prosperity gospel” is an abomination, and against the teachings of Jesus the Christ. Jesus said ‘give up what you have and follow me’ and ‘a rich man can no more enter the house of the Lord than a camel can pass through the eye of a needle’ not ‘give money to “God” (via Oral Roberts) and you will GET MORE money and BECOME a rich man.’.

But I guess if you believe in UFO’s you might also believe that a charlatan and false prophet can heal ovarian cancer.

The knee jerk response of someone who had no argument other than ‘I think I am a better Christian than you’.

I found that folks demosntrating the kinds of attitudes and perspectives I’ve been responding to . . . have a lot to gain from such mirrors.

Oral was a titanic man of Christ, who, along with Billy Graham, helped transform the "fundamentalist" movement into mainstream Christianity in the mid-20th century.

We deliberately included him in our book, A Patriot's History of the United States and to my knowledge, no other U.S. history text ever even mentioned him.

No man is perfect; and no church is perfect. But God is perfect, and Oral is with Him now.
