The official martyrology of the Roman Catholic Church. Compiled by a group of scholars, it was issued by Pope Gregory XIII in 1584, to replace all other existing martyrologies. Later popes have revised the contents on the basis of historical scholarship and additional canonizations. One of the most radical revisions was made by Pope Benedict XIV in 1748.
There are many, many other martyrs who have died for their Catholic faith. The stories of their individual martyrdoms are spell-binding.
