Too bad God didn't consult with you before sending poor misguided John the Revelator to Patmos to receive those silly visions, eh. If He had asked for your opinion, he could have save the time spent writing so much of the Bible.
Just a small suggestion, but your self-righteousness seems out of place with the softness and tenderness of heart I have come to know with most folks who are filled the Spirit of Jesus. Maybe I am again missing the essential point.
Are you convinced we are in the end times? What if we aren’t?
I think I have a tighter interpretation-of-Scripture habit than most folks on FR’s rel forum.

No, not absolutely...but open to the strong possibility that we might be.
OTOH, a personal end times is always just around the corner. I take care of my 90 year old parents and am more keenly aware that usual just how fragile life can be. I've had to call 911 twice in the last few month because I thought one of them was in fatal danger. In both cases, the paramedics were able to save a life.
Obviously, such an event in the middle of the night is more than a little unsettling.

I am not displaying self-righteousness. I am displaying the confidence given to me by Christ in regard to my salvation and spiritual safety. I can be but a "sheep before the wolves" in full confidence that I am protected. I have been discharged from the need of knowing the details. Those who must save themselves need to know the details. Your spiritual safety is in the hands of Christ, not your own. The way you are now coming on to me shows that think you play a major part in your own salvation.
Now we are getting to some of the significant differences in denominations. Many think they gain salvation through works. Those who understand know that salvation is by Grace alone, and only through Christ. You are the self-righteous, for you have the keys to the Kingdom. I know I'm not righteous, I am forgiven.
By the way. The meanest people I have known are the ones who professed to be wonderful Christians.
Oh, I know Whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I’ve committed unto Him against that day.
I have no curiosity about aliens. I am a retired nurse, and did my stint in Neuropsych; none of the people obsessed by aliens/demons had anything but personally destructive consequences.
Anything is possible, but I’m suspicious of those with too great an interest in aliens/demons, due to the fact that Christ wants me (I believe) to concentrate on doing His Will for my life every day. None of it involves occult phenomena research, and part of me wants to warn people about that interest...the other part just laughs. Fallible me. ;-D

I played only one tiny little role in my salvation...I took the Lord's hand when he offered it to me. He did all the rest.

I personally have a hunger for It. He speaks to me through the Bible...for me, it is a living thing that moves within my heart and soul and body (just as does His Spirit) and directs the course of my actions. And of course, He uses it to chastise me when I make mistakes.
As for meanness among those who profess to be Christians...(you knows as well as I do that) just because someone professes to be a Christian doesn't mean that they have asked the Holy Spirit to indwell them and have indeed accepted Him into their hearts. It doesn't mean, as Paul says, they have died so that His Spirit may live in their hearts.
For example, Fr Gabriel Amorth is an exorcist of the Diocese of Rome (I am not a Catholic BTW) and honestly believes he is doing God's work. He believes that people should know what the work of exorcists is all about. I don't know if he is right or wrong, but I am certain willing to ponder what he says.
Are you saying that the Fr Amorth, in his effort to bring the Lord to the possessed (and, as any warrior must, studiously knowing his enemy), is guilty of performing "occult phenomena research".
I am not asking whether or not you approve of the Fr Amorth or the Catholic Church. My point, to reiterate, is this..."who are we to question God's calling of others...that is between them and Him."
When we think we know the Mind of God or how he works in the lives of all He calls, we are most likely wrong.
BTW, while on the subject of demonic possession, I most certainly have observed it, though not in a cases of full possession. I would bet that as a nurse who have seen it also. There is nothing more pitiful than someone whipsawed about by evil forces...very sad.
I am so glad there are some men and women of God who feel called to bring God's liberation from that evil to them.

NOT doing the above would be . . . rebellion.
