Vatican Backs Obama's Global Agenda
ChristianWorldviewNetwork.com ^ | October 13, 2009 | Cliff Kincaid

Liberal and conservative Catholics alike would prefer not to discuss how the Catholic Church, here and abroad, functions like a liberal/left-wing political lobby.

Some pro-life Catholics are acting shocked that the Vatican warmly greeted the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to President Obama, who is pro-abortion. They don't seem to understand that the Vatican and Obama agree on most major international issues.

This is the untold story-how Obama and the Vatican accept major ingredients of what has been called a New World Order.

Another untold story is how, despite a disagreement over abortion, the U.S. Catholic Bishops and the Obama Administration agree on major aspects of so-called health care reform.

"This section of the _Caritas_ encyclical doesn’t say what you want it to say,

A careful reading, in the context of prior Church Encyclicals and Doctrine, clearly establishes that it says exactly that. A quick scan of the document looking for an out of context quote to refute or criticize the Church is not an objective standard worth debating.

The Caritas in Veritate calls upon each individual and each government to remember Christ's First law above all others; to love thy neighbor as thyself. If anyone is surprised by this they do not understand the Church or Christ's Gospels.

"I really do wonder what many RCs think the responsibility of their Pope is suppose to be."

What do you think the responsibility of the Pope is? What legal, administrative, and disciplinary powers do you believe him to have? What is the role of the College of Cardinals in establishing Church doctrine and dogma? How does the Bishop of Rome differ from any other Bishop of the Church? Are you aware that the term "RC" is terribly offensive to many?

I can’t help but wonder if part of this Catholic alliance with the Left is due to the absence of a European-style right wing ideology in the United States. What would our politics look like if such an ideology existed here?

What an excellent characterization of the Vatican Backs Obama's Global Agenda" article written by Cliff Kincaid. May I quote you?

"I can’t help but wonder if part of this Catholic alliance with the Left...

That is unsubstantiated conjecture. No such alliance exists. Try sticking with the facts.

Only in context.

Not in brazen distortion.

Somehow you have managed to miss the point of my post entirely because of your gut reaction to one sentence in it. Believe me, if I intended to attack the Catholic Church I would have said a great deal more than that.

I am not a social Darwinist nor do I consider laissez faire capitalism the end-all and be-all of conservatism. Neither am I opposed to a "one world government" so long as it is under the True G-d (anyone who opposes the very idea of a one world government rather than opposing one not under the True G-d can only be described as a henotheist).

My post was entirely aimed at critiquing the USA's lack of an ideology similar to that of the European right, which leaves American Catholics nowhere to go for their communitarian impulses but to the Left. If there were a distributist or falangist movement in America would there be an organization called "Catholic Democrats" at all?

Please feel free to ignore my point in this post as well.

I didn't miss the intent of your post. However, it begins with a false premise. It requires that I accept that such an alliance exists which I do not.

Of course that’s your opinion, but it could be considered muddled.

Another excellent characterization of Kincaid's work. Thank you again.

I'm sorry I couldn't think of a less clumsy way of putting it, but I was trying to make a point (and that point was not, believe it or not, that "Catholics are commies").

The right wing anti-Communist Church of Old Europe is ultimately the same Church as the one in today's America that for so long funded ACORN and whose bishops still endorse many leftist positions. I am guessing that if the American ideological spectrum were not an either-or of either social Darwinists or leftists that US Catholic political behavior would be very different from what it is and very much in line with the right wing, anti-Communist Church of Old Europe.

And btw, I don't like the choice between social Darwinists and Communists either.

I appreciate your perspective. I will concede that far too many Catholics, more accurately those who profess to be Catholics, support Obama's agenda, but that is not to be confuces with the position of the Church.

ZC, you wrote:

There is a distributist movement in America. It’s small, but it exists (e.g. http://www.distributist.org/ ). This is easily seen by how much distributist literature has been republished in just the last five years.

http://distributism.blogspot.com/

http://distributistleague.blogspot.com/

And there’s been debate over it: http://mises.org/story/1062
