Interesting that Fr. John would define the laity by what they are not. I’d have thought the definition might have been “One of the four orders of The Church, namely, the hierarchs, monastics, lower clergy and the People of God.” Perhaps the Orthodox notion of what the laity are in The Church is fundamentally different from the Latin notion?

I like your definition.

I don’t think the Roman church would have the same names, but I agree with what you have said.
