Elder Jorge F. Zeballos: Attempting the impossible
Mormon Times ^ | Oct. 3, 2009

Eternal life is a divine promise that is possible to achieve, said Elder Jorge F. Zeballos of the Seventy during the Saturday afternoon session of conference.

"From a purely human point of view at first, this seems to be an impossible task; however, it begins to appear possible upon understanding that in order to achieve it, we are not alone."

Recognizing that eternal life is made possible by a forgiving Eternal Father and the selfless sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ, Elder Zeballos spoke of the rewards and possibilities available for all who work, sacrifice and give the best of themselves to build the kingdom of God.

"The fulfillment of the divine promise to have eternal life, to achieve perfection and to be happy forevermore in the family unit is subject to the sincere demonstration of our faith in Jesus Christ, obedience to the commandments, perseverance and diligence throughout our life.

"The Lord does not expect that we do what we cannot achieve," he said. "The command to become perfect as He is encourages us to achieve the best of ourselves . . . [and] to realize our potential as children of God. He knows us; He knows of our capacities and our limitations, the invitation and challenge to become perfect, to achieve eternal life is for all mankind."

"Even when from the purely human perspective perfection can appear an impossible challenge to achieve, I testify that our Father and our Savior have made known to us that it is possible to achieve the impossible. Yes it is possible to achieve eternal life. Yes it is possible to be happy now and forever."

This was from the Lds church's twice-a-year general conference going on this weekend.

Note the constant references to expect perfectionism among Mormons: ...to achieve perfection...the command to become perfect...the invitation and challenge to become perfect...Even when from the purely human perspective perfection can appear an impossible challenge to achieve..."

Throughout this talk an Lds leader defines eternal life" as "perfection."

But how does Jesus Christ define eternal life? "And this is eternal life, and you KNOW the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom He has sent." (John 17:3)

Eternal life is a relationship that begins right now on earth and continues into eternity -- a relationship with the only true God and His Son, Jesus Christ. Lds is the ONLY RELIGION I know of that defines eternal life as exaltation, which Lds say is achieving perfection as a god.

From the general conference talk: the command to BECOME perfect...the invitation and challenge to BECOME perfect...

Notice, too, how Mormonism and its leaders have redefined Jesus' words: BE perfect, even as your heavenly father is perfect. --Jesus Christ (Matthew 5:48)

Sorry, Mormons. The command, challenge, invitation, impossibility or whatever you want to call it isn't to beCOME perfect, but to BE perfect. Right now. That's the standard. Adam kept it. For a while. So did Eve.

The standard's never changed. Just the fulfillment of it. Jesus Christ lived the perfect life. He not only died for us; He lived for us -- the perfect life we never could. Mormons think they can live that perfect life on earth and audition for godhood in the process.

Thank You Jesus that I do not have to be good enough (which I am not) or work enough (which I can not), thank You, that I am covered by the Blood of Jesus. Thank You that You were willing to sacrifice Yourself for me a retched sinner. Thank You Jesus for the fulfillment of Your promise. Thank you Jesus.

1 John 1:8* ¶ If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

There is absolutely no possibility of obtaining perfection on this earth by our own efforts as this scripture makes perfectly clear.

For all our works are as “filthy rags” (menstrual cloths) before God (Isa 64:6)

The only way we are perfected is by the grace of God “ For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.:(Heb 10:14)

Go for it guys!

Beat yer little Mormon brains out in the attempt...

Pick one; for they are mutually exclusive...

John 6

28. Then they asked him, "What must we do to do the works God requires?"
29. Jesus answered,
"The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent."

Galatians 3

1. You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified.
2. I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by observing the law, or by believing what you heard?
