Yes, and according to John, it is actually possible to share in the wicked work of a false teacher:
As we obey the command not to be gullible, but "test the spirits" (1 Jn. 4:1) so that we won't be deceived, we will have to carefully evaluate teachers and ministries by the Scriptures, which are always final authority (2 Tim. 3:16, 17).
Good point, especially that Scripture, and not our feelings, are the final authority.

“There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death..” Prov. 16:25
1. One of the Scriptural tests is . . . does the prophet attest and affirm that Jesus came in the flesh.
2. Another is the fruit of their ministry.
3. Another is their agreeing with Paul and the basic doctrines of the faith.
All the prophet and prophetic types hereon pass those tests better by far than the naysayers hereon do.
